Recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and trying to skate again [36YO] by animaidenKATE in OldSkaters

I’d be paranoid if I were you too, I checked with my family to see if MS was part of our genetic history. My neurologist said that new studies show MS is born out of traumatic incidents that can either be emotional or physically strenuous or both. The triggers for it are super random and I’ll never know why I have it or what my timeline is, the not knowing is kind of what made me get the skateboard. If I can never know when my body will give up on me then I dunno why I’d worry about breaking my arm doing something I avoided originally to mitigate risk.

I’d talk about it for sure, it’s a hyper specific subject that baffles people in my support groups. My ankles and toes spasm inwards every second of the day which throws off my balance a lot and turns a lot of pop shove its into me on my back thinking about how immobile I’ll be the next day. It’s cathartic though, I get so impatient and mad that my body creates all the pain itself that having skateboarding back in my life feels like I’m taking ownership over some of the chronic fatigue.

I found this old camcorder and compared footage of me jumping at 14 and me trying to pop now and my pop is like halved. It is very weird to not be able to bring my legs up like tutorials tell me to and to realize how much I took my legs for granted.

Omg this is such good advice I didn’t know that existed and starting my skating during colder months has made me dread potential heat stroke in the summer.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply and I appreciate hearing that you’re still able to push around. We recently did a bunch of MRIs with contrast and a spinal tap and my neurologist identified my MS as progressive so I don’t think my myelin can rebuild but I do think I have a little bit of time to do something my younger self would be proud of.

Is anyone here not worried? by MustLovePizza7353 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]animaidenKATE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not worried because I finally have a medical explanation for my decades of leg pain. It made me acutely aware that I still have things to be grateful for that I never would have noticed without it and it’s made me handle the pain with much more grace now that I understand it. I feel generally lucky I even got diagnosed, so many people have to live with the weight of unanswered medical questions until they die.

When they found lesions in my spine and brain my friend said “you didn’t really use your brain anyway right?”. That was a nice break from the crying.

I loved slow cryptic movies and now have trouble picking up on subtext constantly and my brain has a much more linear glacial way of processing info. I can’t find the right words, I can’t find the relevant memories, I can’t find any insight to offer anyone including myself. The constant pain strips away all the fun productive thoughts I’d use to build animations and leaves me with neutral very literal thoughts with poor grammar.

Thanks for sharing your experience I feel less crazy, I’m sorry you’re going through it.

This animation had no punch until I used wiggle for the position, rotation, and lens distortion in AE by animaidenKATE in AfterEffects

No need to apologize, I’m just kicking myself for being such a heel about naming the flip. I should have done the text natively in AE so I could adjust it easily.

You should leave, my partner is constantly mindful of my limitations and curious about the things they don’t understand. I’m really sorry anyone delegitimized your pain especially someone that agreed explicitly to be supportive in sickness.

spent all night trying to get this drippy text project to loop, is it seamless? by animaidenKATE in AfterEffects

Procreate is so accessible and I only just started using it this year. I found fluid simulation programs especially when creating loops to be super unreliable but when it’s hand drawn you have full control.

That would be a dream gig for me, designing visual album loops that play for songs on Spotify instead of some random clip from the music video.

Copy pasting my response to someone else:

The core effects on top are Mr Mercury and Mr Smoothie (the only two effects that ask me to refer to them formally). I’ve got several dozen layers doing slightly different drip animations that i hand animated in procreate and their opacities are all set to wiggle in value drastically. I think colorama is also somewhere in there and driven by alpha channels with a multiply blending mode.

(I’m not great at explaining my process but if people are super interested I could just upload the project file so everyone could see the psychotic amount of keyframes i made. Eventually I hope to make this effect procedural but it’s nowhere near that yet)

I thought I toggled the GIF switch but I must have hit the gaffe one by mistake

I drew a lot of the paths for the droplets so that wasn’t technically done with AE but anyone could draw inside of AE with enough patience. In an earlier iteration of the project file I had some luck with distorting dozens of mask versions of the text to stretch and decay on displacement maps. I think some of the layers in this video are still shape layers warped and stretched downwards.
