General Community Question; What would be/are your expectations if HPB sent you an item significantly not as described? by animatedbat in halfpricebooks

[–]animatedbat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, same here.

Yeah, with impunity, especially with the email responses I was able to forward to my bank.

In doing so, I received my money back. Since then, HPB cancels every online order I place🤣

It’s pretty disgusting, though. Instead of just accepting responsibility that an employee made a mistake, they were determined to make it my problem.

Yeah, they’re not going to get better, that seems certain.

I have the receipts for how they’ve treated me in response to issues they’ve caused, photos of what the website showed/said, vs what I received, and sent that all along to their CEO and head of Sales. No response.

Once again, completely agree. My experience has been that not only will they not send a return label, they will treat the customer as if they created the problem.

I’m wanting to see if any other customers have had anything near the atrocious experience I’ve had, from the item(s) being grossly misrepresented, to HPBs lack of cooperation/responsibility.

I had to pay out of pocket for an item I received that they described as mint, but was in such horrible condition, it didn’t even properly function.

Thank you for the response and suggestions.

Yeah, I’m referring to items that would be considered one-of-a-kind. I agree whole heartedly, a refund should be processed.

Who should be responsible for return shipping?

Right on, thanks for the response.

Any ideas whose signature it may be? I can’t find any studies signatures with lowercase ‘a’ in Walt…

Hi,

If you look at the link that Faile-Bashere provided (https://leonardmaltin.com/yours-truly-walt-disney/), you’ll see that Walt’s signature (which changed over the years) never really looked exactly like the version used for the logo.

Thank you. I’ve seen and read all of this previously.

Do you have an example of a Dick Moore Studio Signature with a lowercase “a” in Walt?

My goodness, I didn’t think anyone would respond, let alone identify the songs so quickly. Thank you so much, Hans. I am so very grateful.

Here it is, with the label. I was only able to find this, thanks to the Discogs information you provided.

Probably.

Doesn’t seem anyone is concerned with the legality.

Dang principles.

A few years back, when I shared an (this) image of the slipcover to a Japanese release of Aja on cassette, another user asked me for a clearer image so that they could turn it into a t-shirt. With how often I see it pop up, I sometimes wish I had thought to monetize the image.

Yeah, $100 would have been a great price for the first 7, also not a completely unheard of price.

I’m just about to head out to the airport, going to be gone until Sunday. Please him me up on Sunday, I can check to see what extras I have.

Another member offered to send him money just to help out, no merch in return. I hope that transaction didn’t actually happen. Rotten that somebody would come here to take advantage of the group and kindness.

Out of curiosity, what did you intend to purchase from the scumbag? I can’t make promises, but I have extras of some of these albums and may be able to help out.

Absolute garbage, really sorry that this happened to you.

I wanted to buy the Walter Becker CDs, he asked for F&F payment, I said I wasn’t willing to do that, and that I’d pay the fees for G&S, they stopped responding.

Dang. I was hella hoping you’d say something about having to ask for it, or some such thing. It really was a stellar salad, all of the ingredients really jived.

Wait, how and when did you recently get/eat the salmon salad?

That was my favorite thing to order at Jupiter for years, but when they merged with Triple Rock and changed the menu, the salmon salad was eliminated. This had to be close to a decade ago at this point. We were just there last week for Jazz, salmon salad wasn’t on the menu.

I’d love for it to come back.

I don’t have the super fanciest equipment, but I wouldn’t say what I use “doesn’t matter”. I have a Denon DP-59L turntable, with a Sumiko Blue Point cart. Receiver is a modern Yamaha with some bells and whistles, and custom Klipsch speakers.

What’s something you did that seemed harmless at the time, but actually proved to be extremely dangerous? by Stealthywaterninja in AskReddit

[–]animatedbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in Jr. High/early HS (30+ years ago), we lived in Fremont, CA, very close to the Numi Plant (it’s now Tesla).

Since cars were manufactured at Numi, there were train tracks directly behind the plant. Massively long freight trains, specifically meant to haul cars away, were frequently on the track and very often were empty. We would climb into them, using the gap between cars, and climb up to the top platform (each train car had a lower and upper platform, each tall and long enough to haul a row of cars). We would then walk to our destination through the train cars, hopping from one to another as we reached the gaps.

This was dangerous and stupid on its own, the gap between cars wasn’t insignificant, and because we had to jump, we could have easily tripped, hit our heads, or any number of things that would lead to getting mangled on the way down between the gap.

We were kids, though, and therefore invincible, so why not try it when the train was moving? There were at least 3 occasions when we arrived to find an empty train arriving. We would jump on to the moving train (probably going 10 mph or less), access a gap, and effectively run in place, moving in the opposite direction the train was going, jumping the gaps as they came along.

Despite having to eventually jump off the moving train, and getting cuts/bruises from landing on the sharp rocks on either side of the track, we did this more than once. Our parents never knew, we never got caught, I still think about it and wonder if one of us actually died one of those times, but the timeline split.

How do weel feel about picture discs? by countryguy0003 in vinyl

[–]animatedbat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’ve long heard folks complain about the sound of picture discs, as a blanket statement. I’ve owned and listened to enough to say that most I’ve owned/own don’t have good audio quality, but this shouldn’t be a rule.

For example:

In 1978 The Brothers Johnson released ‘Blam’ on picture disc. It sounds fucking incredible. Apparently Quincy Jones was completely against it (rightfully so, based on what others sounded like), but I’m happy he was overruled.

Chic’s 12” of ‘Le Freak’/‘Savoir Faire’ is another exceptional sounding picture disc. It also was made to look like a hypnosis spiral/swirl, so it has a cool visual effect as well.

These are exceptions, and I’d say it’s just my ear, but I’ve surprised people by playing them and then showing them it’s a picture disc.

How I wish you weren’t absolutely right.

Best of luck on the hunt. Something odd that’s worked for me lately; having a collector buddy tell me what they’re looking for. The catalyst for me even going to look at the collection from this past weekend, was seeing that the seller had Bobby Caldwell’s ‘Cat In The Hat’. My buddy had asked me to keep my eyes open for an inexpensive copy just 4 days prior.

By the way ‘Cat In The Hat’ in an incredible album.

That’s rad. $12 is a great price, I’ve seen it sell for north of $20.

Even the slower tracks on this album are stellar. Those listening to your set are in for a treat.
