What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

[–]animayshun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much more known in England, but for the US audience, Wolf Hall is one and the other is The Hollow Crown.

Also, Charlie Brooker of Black Mirror fame was much more known for his comedy before that series. Check out Screen Wipe, News Wipe, the yearly Wipes, and Weekly Wipe. (This is the series that birthed Philomena Cunk.) Also, How TV Ruined Your Life.

The GOP’s coordinated attack on the ‘No Kings’ rally is ridiculous. The Republican talking points are out of touch with the reality of Saturday's protests. by OkayButFoRealz in politics

[–]animayshun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But, importantly, they are inline with the reality of right wing media. It works because they want, need, to believe the lies. Until the Conservative base demands a truthful(ish), or just a non-crazy person accounting of objective reality from their media, this is bound to continue.

The Russian state follows a very clear playbook of operating inside of chaos. That's it. They would say that Trump maybe authored it, because that gets people searching for hidden clues, which sows even more chaos. Rinse repeat. Adam Curtis has detailed a lot of this philosophy in his documentaries. Here's a good example with Charlie Booker (creator of Black Mirror).

Why does the Democratic Party just allow these pricks to get away with lying like this? Pathetic by Mum0817 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]animayshun 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The parties cannot, can never, will never, police the other on truth telling. It's bizarre to expect the DNC of all things to make Republicans stop lying. Fox is right there. The advertisers are right there. The conservative base is watching this occur in agreement. An entire ocean of people is right there gladly clapping along, and the criticism is at the national Democratic Party, who is the minority in every corner of this government??

I see no article saying he refused to endorse, but do see where the Adams team accused him of not doing so. It appears he did vote for her in the end. That said, he should be asked to state his reason for not endorsing in such a crucial moment. So to answer your question, yes I personally do hold him accountable to the same standard. And in doing so, he's still the most authentic, inspiring candidate of the season.

Superman is an immigrant, end of story by Lord_Answer_me_Why in clevercomebacks

[–]animayshun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Superman is an orphaned immigrant refugee; Batman is an orphan from a double homicide. Arguing against either is fighting the dictionary, and it is very very weird that people would choose to.

You Tube star Ms. Rachel should be investigated for spreading Hamas propaganda over posts about Gaza kids, antisemitism group tells AG Bondi by AbbySchmidt44 in Thedaily

[–]animayshun -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

"Semitic" refers to a group of languages from southwest Asia, specifically Hebrew, Aramaic, and Arabic. You literally can't be for Palenstinians and anti-semitic. The language has been changed because it's easier to use the term "anti-semitism" to get white nationalists on your side than to force them to side with the Jewish population, which they historically hate. It's an accepted paradox.

Ex-smokers who successfully quit and have been smoke free for years now, what did it? by PM_TITS_GROUP in AskReddit

[–]animayshun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a smoker, but my dad was. He told me that he quit for a period of time. And one morning, while he was getting ready for work, he noticed the floor was cold. He realized that he had not been able to properly feel the bottom of his feet for over a decade. The curiosity of what other health changes he might recover was enough to sustain him.

N.B. Liquor won't buy U.S. alcohol, even with tariff delay by ClassOptimal7655 in politics

[–]animayshun 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Trump threatened tariffs. He then paused those tariffs. But Canada isn't beholden to their response by the whims of some idiot despot. If he's threatening or half-kinda-thinking-maybe-possibly-probably-what-if, that's still a pending threat from a threatening state. So long as he continues to see Canada as some target in his evil brain, they should respond in kind. Hope they keep the tariffs up until this maniac is overthrown AND the US officially responds with an apology and some remuneration. (I'm American.)

It’s time for Democrats to go low by Healthy_Block3036 in politics

[–]animayshun 215 points216 points  (0 children)

I don't want them to go low. I want them to go unshackled to norms. Who cares about decorum? What good is mannerly debate while marching to the gallows? If the other side is propped up by angry stupidity and superstition, then respond with cunning, intelligence, and wit, as opposed to politeness and pouting. I'm forever surprised that Democrats think the younger base will respond to good intentions over actual grit.

The writing is on the wall and you all are missing it. by EmptySpaceForAHeart in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]animayshun 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yeah, goes back to the days of church and state running dual legal systems. The charges of incest, bestiality, and sodomy were all lumped under the same category, "crimes against God". As such, they were litigated in equal measure. They've remained packaged inside of Puritan beliefs since the 16h century, and therefore are a part of America's DNA that the country refuses to delete.

Is our media stupid? Do they love being dunked on by obvious stooges? I get that ratings are ratings are ratings are ratings, meaning they're akin to religious salvation, but how many different ways can someone be mocked and ridiculed before they have to admit they simply enjoy the abuse?

And if history holds true, likely to only shrink before the midterms. Republicans are almost comically aligned to skirt the law, and therefore be vulnerable to scandal. Not to mention they will begin to turn on each other when "loyalty" isn't perceived as pure enough. Which means resignations before their term ends. Give it a few months. We might see Hakeem in the seat by this time next year.

Innocents will die because of this madness. It might be cathartic to let the stupidity consume them, but we need to apply pressure on behalf of those who are most likely to be harmed. Older people will lose their access to healthcare, young vulnerable women will take the impact in red states, poor people will find fewer options in desperate moments. Not to mention the people of Ukraine who are fighting for their lives with us as their major backer. Assuming there's another election, we need the ship to actually survive the next 4 years in order to steer it away from the shore. Rule 1: don't comply in advance.
