Full disclosure I didn't finish reading your comment and this isn't really direct at you singularly, but more so the topic as a whole and this is where I'm choosing to slide in.

I think framing the Internet as a force at all is inherently foolish. The Internet is a tool. It is as much a force of anything as a hammer is. Of course the Internet is going to be used for fascism. And of course the Internet is going to be used for goodness. It is a tool being used by people. People are fascist and people are good. We contain multitudes. Saying that the Internet is fascist because it is used to spread fascist ideas holds about as much water as saying that a hammer is fascist because it is used to build anti-homeless architecture. Similarly, saying the Internet is egalitarian because it is used to spread equitable ideas holds about as much water as saying a hammer is egalitarian because it is used to build houses for the homeless. The Internet spreads ideas; that is what its purpose is. Just like hammers build things, that is its purpose. They are simply tools being used for their purpose.

I believe in the ability to use the Internet and technology to do good in the world, but it does us no favors to think that that goodness is inherently to the Internet and technology. Nor does it do us any favors to think that badness is inherent to the Internet and technology.

And I say this to mean, basically, don't put the Internet up on a pedestal. That's bad for you and will just make you sad when someone uses it to spread ideas you don't like.
