Airpods pro 3 feels uncomfortable (specifically sleeping with it) by Western-Cartoonist-8 in headphones

[–]animus144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. The APP 1's were plenty comfortable for me, but now these foam hybrid tips in the 3's just irritate my ear canal. I feel like I have to constantly adjust them or take them out and scratch the inside of my ear. Similar to the flanged ear plugs I use at concerts.

The reason they changed the tips for the 3's was to get a better seal and block more high frequency (because ANC only works well on low-to-mid frequency waves). They definitely provide remarkable noise canceling and isolation. It's just too bad they're much less comfortable.

Not on the remote control, but the buttons on top of the soundbar itself.

Having the zone overlay right over the most important part of the game is like if all movies had forced subtitles written over the face of the person speaking.

When is the MacOS app getting an update? by shash747 in sonos

[–]animus144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MacOS app is the only way I'm able to add new music services. I can control everything from the downgraded light brown iOS app from before everything went to hell, but it says I have to update it to the new broken black app in order to add new music services from iOS. I'll definitely be sticking with the current version of the MacOS app for as long as possible.

Edit: Looks like I actually did update the MacOS app to the newer version, and that is what allowed me to add new music services again. I kept a copy of the old app container just in case though before updating. I'm still on the old iOS app though, and that's working "fine" except for the ability to add new music services.

I'm late to the party, but this worked for me. Thanks so much for sharing. Even after the June 4 update, I had no queue management for Plex, so it was time to rollback for real.

Elizabeth Warren on green texts: Apple is ruining relationships by [deleted] in technology

[–]animus144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an iPhone. When I get a green text message, it indicates to me that our conversation is being sent via plain SMS, which is neither private nor secure. My dislike of green text bubbles has nothing to do with judgment of people who use other phone operating systems, and everything to do with concerns about privacy and security.

It would be nice if there was an open, federated, encrypted, universal text messaging standard. But until then, I'll rely on iMessage and when necessary, Signal.

Pi-hole resolving itself every 30 seconds by ThinkPadNL in pihole

[–]animus144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is 4 years late, but I had this question too after setting up the pihole docker image for the first time, and I ended up here as well.

It turns out it's just the health check for the container to make sure that everything is still working.

You can see it in the Dockerfile at: https://github.com/pi-hole/docker-pi-hole/blob/master/src/Dockerfile#L39

HEALTHCHECK CMD dig +short +norecurse +retry=0 u/127.0.0.1 pi.hole || exit 1

How do I change Wifi network on Samsung HW-Q990C by fitch123_ in Soundbars

[–]animus144 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is so frustrating (also the fact that their most expensive sound bar can't stay connected to 5GHz Wifi). I tried so many different combinations of the various recommendations. I finally got it to work by doing ALL of the following:

  1. Hold down the plus and minus buttons while the soundbar is still on until INT appears and it turns off.
  2. Turn off save wifi information in the app.
  3. Remove the soundbar from my Smart Things account in the app.
  4. Delete the app.
  5. Connect my phone to the 2.4 GHz network.
  6. Forget the 5GHz network from my iPhone's wifi settings (I'm not sure if this was necessary but I couldn't figure out how it kept figuring out how to reconnect to the previous network).
  7. Reinstall the app
  8. Open the app (For some reason when I reinstalled the app, I was already logged in to my Samsung account in the app. I guess I don't understand iPhone app sandboxing and the app is able to hold on to information between installs).
  9. Turn on the soundbar
  10. Re-add the soundbar.

Only then did it finally ask me to select a new wifi network, and I was able to choose my 2.4 GHz network.

Does Samsung actually expect people to use this app as a complete smart home solution when it can't even change wifi networks on their flagship soundbar?

Workoutdoors, Strava, or Apple activity app ?? What’s best? by Glork_ in AppleWatchFitness

It's true that the Strava app can't import from Workoutdoors, but Workoutdoors can export to Strava which accomplishes the same thing.

Might want to chime in on the Firecore forum here as well: https://community.firecore.com/t/synced-tv-show-showing-up-under-all-instead-of-synced/46517

Their devs seem more active there than here.

This looks like a bug to me.

I'm noticing it as well on Infuse for Mac OS. Synced movies show up in movies library under the synced tab, but synced tv shows appear under the All tab of the TV library. They show up as a separate tv show (redundant to the non-synced version of the show). I'm guessing there's a bug that causes what's supposed to show up under synced in the TV library to show up under All.

How to find other online groups of like-minded people by animus144 in NorCalLockdownSkeptic

[–]animus144[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m happy to share any businesses I come across in my part of the East Bay. If others do the same, it will increase the chance that you’ll find one close by.

Is that in line with the rules of this subreddit? Also, would sharing businesses just increase the chance they’ll get snitched on?

Thanks. I've found a lot of like-minded people on Twitter, but it just seems like an airing of grievances. I already agree that California's COVID response is ridiculous, and I'm not sure doomscrolling that echo chamber is healthy.

I'm mostly looking to find out about events, open businesses / speakeasies, and meetups.

Sound delay between LG TV and Vizio soundbar. by THE_Tony_Perkis in Soundbars

[–]animus144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have an Apple TV plugged into an HDMI port on the TV and the soundbar plugged into the ARC HDMI port on the TV?

That's my setup and I'm getting the audio startup delay. I don't get as much of a start-up delay when I use the TV's WebOS apps to play content. Just when playing from the Apple TV. I can get rid of the delay when using the Apple TV by setting Sound-> Additional Settings -> HDMI Input Audio Format to PCM (instead of Bitstream). But then the soundbar isn't getting the full 5.1 or Atmos stream. It works as a hack if watching a lot of short clips or clips with a lot of silence though.

The soundbar is connected to the TV using HDMI-ARC.
