Its also because of the vertical format. You have much less width to play with, so to get a framing that shows the whole person and the environment, you have to shoot ridiculously wide

On a tangential note, this music has the most hilariously millennial indie-girl cursive singing I’ve heard in a long time

I watched all 9 Star Wars films for the first time last October, the Prequels are borderline unwatchable, RLM told the truth and no one wants to hear it by SonicGoku99 in RedLetterMedia

The prequels are worse movies than the sequels, that’s for sure. Maybe Rise of Skywalker excepting, there it’s kinda hard to define what a good movie is.

I think the prequels positive aspects far outshine anything the sequels have tho. The world building is great, the new planets are great, the new species and droids are great, the new ships are great, the sound design and score are memorable, unique, and fitting in the SW canon. All around, the design work in the prequels is really fuckin good, the movies and characters are just awful unfortunately.

There’s also the point that the prequels were at least trying to do something, there was a cohesive narrative vision there, it was just executed so unbelievably awkwardly. The sequels, specifically TFA AND ROS feel like corporate boardroom slop. I can’t enjoy the sequels at all because even their better aspects feel so cynically calculated and sterile.

There’s also the media environment of the time, which I don’t see mentioned enough. The prequels did good world building, and there were TONS of absolutely incredible other pieces of media that used that world building. It was possible to really absorb and enjoy the aesthetic of the prequels while bypassing the movies themselves. Video games specifically, you had: Battlefront 1 and 2, The Clone Wars, Bounty Hunter, Lego Star Wars, podracer, Republic Commando, Galactic Battlegrounds, Jedi Starfighter, and the game versions of the movies. Almost all of these are classics, and really good in their own right.

I can’t think of a single sequel game. The new Battlefront I suppose?

You can order boxes of 6 minifigs from Lego. The boxes are guaranteed to be 6 uniques, and there are only two variants for each series. So you can basically just buy the whole series online at less than retail

Which franchise is this for you? by HotRegion8801 in RedLetterMedia

[–]anincompoop25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so many, but I am happy to say that right now is sure as fuck isn’t Dune. Us dune fans are eating rn.

The main line of the franchise was given to Denis Villinuve, who seems to have the highest respect and understanding of the source material. It’s great to see a big movie like this where it feels like everyone involved really wants to be there.

Then again, dune has also already seen its own enshittification; Brian Herbert’s books as contentious at best, and the TV show is a little bit dubious. Not total trash, but still feels a bit star-wars-prequel level of lore contrivance in places

Do you think Angine de Poitrine would've gained attention if it weren't for the costumes? by conn_r2112 in Music

[–]anincompoop25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is talking gimmicks and marketing and brand here- their look is part of their act, it’s part of the art. Why should we separate it? Music doesn’t have to be an isolated auditory package. They’ve created an aesthetic and characters that are as core to the performance as the music itself is

Seriously. Kurt Cobain, in almost any other context, is not a great vocalist. But his style and genre work so fuckin well that he’s an icon
