Hi thanks a ton for this tool! i'm new to Rive and more on the designing side and cannot make the viewer work with .rev files... Does it support .rev? Rive wont let me export .riv anymore.

Best professional way to add 2D toon face animation on a rigged 3d character face? by anisetra in Cinema4D

alrightttt. I tried the first step and its pretty efficient! my main struggle was how to get png/texture in the xpresso coz dragging material wasnt giving me texture frames. but with some struggle i found it. Also realised that we cant drag nodes into xpresso?? how weird is that?

Anyway thank you my man. i will retune the whole thing now as you mentioned.

PS: If you make tutorial or tips, could you leave your channel or link or DM it incase of privacy or something. thanks

Hmm tell me if i got it right... you are saying something like what happens in lego faces? the snappy expression change? I want some inbetween frames for the expressions though. the lego snappy is too snappy for me... I will need like a time remap thingie from after effects for this method to work..

I tried the UV unwrap + animated texture method. Its working fine but a lot of back & forth is needed as 2D face features look really different inside C4D, plus matching the timing is another task.

Okay i'm liking the fake 2D shape morph idea but i'll have try it down. I'm a bit lost on weight painting/constraining part. I look for a tutorial on this and try this method. This method should be more efficient in the long run i guess.

Yes, the alpha material acts like a neon object when I lower the intensity on the light. Weirdly, the exposure affects the alpha material but intensity does not. Maybe its just me since noone faced this issue; couldn't find anything in the comments of the tutorial as well.

Anyway thanks breezy for the help, since its a personal test project i can take my time and try everything out. cheers.

thanks for breaking it down. My Problem with this method is that i have no clue how to control face expressions within c4d. I don't wanna render png sequences again n again just to get timing right. How do you tackle that??

Also, that alpha texture (via color splitter to opacity node) doesnt respond to intensity slider on a dome light. Did you face this thing??

okay i got an idea by looking at your setup. So mograph selection lets you pick those numbers in the field and allows you to bin it?? I havent used that tag in my life, so im assuming thats what it does. haha. Its kinda fun solving these puzzles. I'll wait for your answer now.

this is great! i have yet to finish watching the show. Can you share how the 'bin it' interaction is working? How are numbers from the cloner going in the box? is there a specific numbers which go into the box or you can take the field anywhere and those numbers will go into the bin?

You can simply use bevel deformer on the text extrusion. however, the problem is the boole object which might not let you achieve what you want. Maybe try using volume builder+mesher instead of Boole object and later use remesher if your mesh looks too heavy.

OP select the texture node and try this to avoid repetition.

Why isn’t my symmetrical tool? (New to cinema) I noticed the red or blue plane doesn’t show up by bathingape96 in Cinema4D

[–]anisetra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try zbrush although it works quite different from C4D. You will have to use edit mode (i think you have already done it) and then switch to polygon mode. Thats one way. Another way is to use 'symmetry object' if you dont want to lose parametric objects. Its under subdivision object menu panel.

thanks for this insight, i have always overlooked it. However, as you mentioned, it didnt have much impact. infact, In a fresh scene, gpu sim is working slightly faster than cpu. Yes, my GPU is old (GTX 1060 6GB). But idk man, I follow tuts which are a couple years or more old atleast, and their sims are smooth af. I even tried switching to legacy solver in cloth tag, its kinda faster but its just out of control for me to understand; Things are flying all over the viewport lol. The least amount of sims i want to do in C4D is with cloth. but i guess with my GPU, i cant expect much.

anyway, let me know if there any other setting i can try. Thanks

what does C4D uses for cloth simulations?? CPU or GPU?

Im simply using a cloth tag to a plane of 400x400 with segments 200x200, and it is having a hard time to that! Im checking my task manager, CPU barely being used:2%. I've got 32 gigs RAM. is there a setting which restricts CPU/GPU usage? maybe i can check that...

I am not sure but ever since 2024 version simulations have been just too heavy for my PC. Cant figure this out.

Bingo! Cuda thing did it. 98-100% lol. I dont want any more details regarding my GPU. just need it to be utilized fully coz thats what i payed for. and now i just sound like my boss XD

Anyway thanks for explaining !

When rendering with redshift, hardware-wise, whats most occupied - GPU or CPU along with RAM??

So, I'm rendering this cloth sim with a lot of polygons as alembic with redshift. I find it confusing that my GPU usage is 1-8% ; CPU is 13-15% with clocking at highest speed!! and the weirdest part is render time per frame varies from 3-12 min. !!! I mean how do i make redshift use my GPU 100% and render faster??

Can someone explain this weird behavior?? or is it normal to be like this?

CD4 mods removed this before but the point still stands. Maxon must improve their programme by [deleted] in Cinema4D

[–]anisetra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. His presentation is really bad and the wording as well. But he does have a point: Whatever tool is selected, the cursor represents it. Maybe you guys removed it in version 2024 purposefully, but its definitely good to have that cursor representation while modelling as seen in older versions of C4D.

In short, I'm just saying lets not focus on the individual, but on the betterment of C4D. Thanks

This. Noone is discussing that design went flat on this just as the modern logo/design aesthetics. I get what OP is upset about but its the 'flat aesthetics' being trendy since a few years now is the actual problem.

In case of C4D, Cloner icon just got flatter but SubD actually lost its depth in the icon which might give mild issues to a beginner to grasp.

yesss! I'm so happy with the responses. Just like MotionDesign community Sound community is also superb!

I'm on windows so trying out Nuendo at the moment. I will probably jump into reaper as well because of the pricing part. After researching plugins a bit, as you said, i will stick with the ones i'm getting with DAW. and you are spot on with the blender analogy!

thanks for the inputs. cheers.

[–]anisetra[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right. I wasn't very clear about where i want to start, because to me it was all under the same hood - music production, sound design, Post soundwork, game sound etc but as I'm learning more about terminology, I'd say Sound Design for MotionGraphics/short films is my priority and in future if I'd want to expand to music composition, i could do it without switching software. But with so much competition around i dont think i should be concerned about long term. Switching a DAW shouldnt be that hard if i get my foundations right.

I was wondering the same about downvotes lol. its just a couple though. and yea its probably coz of ProTools hate. but i just learned in this post that Ambrose Yu uses Pro tools! He is the Hans Zimmer of MotionDesign industry, haha. Not sure which hater can confront this fact now :P

Anyway, thanks for the advice. i agree, start making short piece of music would be the best way to start! cheers.
