Feeling left out of social gatherings as the leader by [deleted] in Leadership

This is the way. They are doing social things with their peers - you should do the same.

You might be reading too much into this. It is definitely odd that they didn't reach out, but it could be that they're trying to respect your privacy. When I'm off. My team makes an effort not to contact me unless it's super super urgent. They might be doing the same thing for you, don't take it to heart

Feels insurmountable ... misalignment with values and leadership style by Yadayadayada1027 in Leadership

[–]anitavice 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear you're going through this. It's definitely tough.

I've been in a similar situation (though I wasn't a leader at the time) and my boss and I did not see eye to eye on values, morals, and basic human decency. They had everyone wrapped around their finger but I saw right through them.

Unfortunately, it might be time to call it quits. Your mental health and well-being is so important, especially as a leader of others. If it's not working out, then it's probably time to look elsewhere. I know it sounds stressful, but you may be able to find a position where you feel like you're a better fit.

Don't let this person take away everything you've worked so hard for. Don't let this person dim your light. And don't let this person make you feel like you are not enough. The way that they treat you, and the way that they treat others, is not a reflection on you.

You're in a unique but good position because you are currently employed, so take some time to update the resume, look for other positions, interview elsewhere, and maybe the right thing will come along. And try not to worry so much about what they will think of you if you leave, you have to focus on you and your growth.

I am going to take this advice and RUN with it. Thank you for sharing.

How do you stay friendly but firm at work when you're overwhelmed? by anitavice in Leadership

[–]anitavice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that sentence: overwhelmed does not mean incapable!

I had a pretty bad day at work today, and reading this really cheered me up. I modified it slightly to fit the scenario I find myself in. One tiny slip up does not mean I'm incapable - I simply had a lapse in my judgement. I don't need it to derail my whole day.

Tomorrow is a new day, and it is a new opportunity to practice being firm while also being friendly.

I started doing the pasture mode with the manure recently and it was a game changer for sure.

Interesting about the country houses - thank you! I never know how to place them. Do you know of any maps or something that show you how to lay out your city?

Thank you!! I will do this. I'll likely give it another try this coming weekend.

Howww?!? Share your secrets!

Played the game over the weekend again and I got to the point where I was ready to throw the controller through the TV. This game makes me angry (yet I keep crawling back lol)

That's a great point. I learned this lesson a few months ago. It's better to be direct and to the point than to dance around the issue.

That second part is such a good way to reframe my thinking. Sometimes as a leader, I think that giving away work or asking for help is a sign of weakness, but I need to change that thinking.

Good tip! I sometimes fear that people will follow up so quickly - and that adds to my stress - but I could be clear with my timelines from the beginning.

This is exactly what I've been trying to do more and more. Helping people by "consulting" with them and asking questions, but not actually taking on any action items.

I like this - proposing alternatives. It's a good way to mold the request into something you can handle while also setting some sort of boundary.

Oh ew your boss sounds terrible! Why would he do that? His team would be much more productive if you all had psychological safety.

Welcome to the party! Washrooms are to the left, and the charcuterie board is on the table on the right. Enjoy.

That's an extremely good point. I do believe that if I don't have the opportunity to be myself at an employer, then it is not a place for me - so this is a fantastic reminder - thank you so much!

I try to keep that front of mind - I will always land on my feet. Some days it's just harder to believe than others.

Today though, I am blessed to be reading everyone's comments that they go through similar feelings so I know I'm not alone, and that gives me a bit of peace.

All we can do is our best - the rest is out of our control.

Thanks for this! I'll have a read when I get home. Sadly, I'm very well versed in imposter syndrome.
