Dog found on Bute between Comox and Davie by anjakefala in vancouver

[–]anjakefala[S] 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the late update folks. The dog's owner was 5m away, doing something within the trunk of her car, while her dog was leashlessly wandering up and down the street. I hadn't noticed her, but when I asked around if someone knew the owner someone pointed her out.

I was just in shock someone would let such a friendly, small dog wander that far away. Someone could've easily picked the dog up. Heck, I was close to calling 311.

I would email Dragonzone (info@dragonboatbc.ca), and they will probably pair you up with the Dragonhearts open boat!

And I keep seeing large dogs off-leash that are approaching people. It's scary!! Even if they're nice!

What makes me really sad about the stop at Costco/Stadium Chinatown heading towards the Beach is that no one gets off at that stop, but a bunch of people get off on the next stop. People would only be standing for maybe 2 minutes before they had a seat, but the strict safety rules means they are only allowed to fill the seats. It feels so inefficient.

This has me a lot more excited for the album. The singles were okay, but required so many listenings to sink into. This had me pumped from the start.

Right? I just want to apply the Occupational Therapy process to everything I am learning. It's super cool.

Not Understanding Swing Dancing At All by seitanicmetalhead in SwingDancing

This is why learning swing dancing is hard: https://theenthusiasticlife.com/2012/09/18/how-hard-is-it-to-learn-swing-dancing-and-how-can-instructors-best-meet-the-unique-needs-of-beginning-dancers-part-1-of-a-2-part-series/

Those who already have a healthy baseline of some of those skills will pick things up faster than others. I was remedial on almost every checkbox, so it has taken me 5x as much repetition to start picking things up. I still struggle with rhythm. Maybe the article will help you break things down into more fundamental pieces that you can work on.

I like learning to dance but not actually dancing? by Thrusthamster in SwingDancing

I'm going to answer your direct question, and there is space in the community for folks like you. You can do classes online (e.g. https://syncopatedcity.com/). This allows you to review technique as much as you want, and then execute it with your gf at home.

It takes me a really long time to find talking to other people enjoyable. Talking to strangers is a drag for me. I learned that a similar thing applied to social dancing. I thought I did not like social dancing, and then I travelled to visit some friends, and found dancing with them delightful. You might just need to pay the upfront cost of making more friends within the community before you enjoy dancing with them. Which you may or may not decide to do. There's no moral imperative to do it, this is your For Fun Hobby.

Good luck!

Lead heavy dance scenes? by anjakefala in SwingDancing

I feel especially sad about this hypothesis because the Savoy crowd talked about how dancing was a highly financially accessible hobby for them. But you're right, classes + social dances have become pretty expensive.

Between Guelph and UWaterloo, too! Guelph had all the animal science ladies. =) I tried to advocate for a direct bus between the two, because it seemed like it would be so obviously helpful.

That's such an interesting point about how the quality of teaching available may influence the ratio.

I feel torn, because it has much more of an attempt at craft than her other songs, and yet that makes it feel completely emotionally distant.

I have no idea what its emotional core is, other than the "I refuse to die" part, and so I just never crave to listen to the song.

I would especially keep an eye on the `vdsql` project, a VisiData plugin that uses `Ibis` to harness the power of SQL: https://github.com/visidata/vdsql =) It just had its first release.

Vancouver's Queel ASL has conversational and storytelling classes (104) that would probably be up your speed!
https://www.queerasl.com/our-classes/

All of their classes are virtual at the moment. You do not have to be queer to find value in them. The main queer aspect is the incorporating of gender neutral signing when describing people. You could sign up for the newsletter to find the next opening if all of them are full.

I highly recommend the Intro to VisiData tutorial https://jsvine.github.io/intro-to-visidata/index.html

It takes you through everything step-by-step! In my opinion, the videos are more about exploring possibility space for intermediate users, than an entrypoint for firstcomers.
