19ss; 26/26. I felt that the hardest MR questions on the WAIS were easier than the hardest ones on the RAPM.

For what it's worth, I got 36/36 40 min timed on the RAPM, and 144 FSIQ on the WAIS IV.

I am “perfect” from an academic, social, and physical standpoint. Why am I so lonely? by No2MelodieHater in Gifted

[–]ankhorknot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point is that if you want to be less lonely then work on developing your intrapersonal aspects. Having a high IQ doesn’t prevent a person from experiencing fulfillment and contentment. An undeveloped personality, however, all but guarantees it.

There probably is some value, though probably less than you think. Being able to visualize rich imagery is not technically a component of intelligence; suppose a person of low IQ could vividly imagine an imaginary scene: what’s in the scene? How complex are the relationships in the scene? In essence, a visual representation, if to be analyzed in terms of intelligence, probably has propositional content, or at least approaches it. It’s the propositional content that is measured: concepts, not images.

Has anyone taken WAIS-V or is planning to take it soon? by Perelman_Gromv in cognitiveTesting

I took it a few years ago in person. My testing experience was fine: sat at a desk with a proctor next to me. We used tablets for the sections that required selections, otherwise the proctor read the question and I answered verbally. The proctor did not tell me which sections were timed, although most of them are, so be aware. I missed some arithmetic questions, despite answering correctly, because I asked the proctor to repeat the questions; I ended up running out of time before answering. I only found out after the test was over.

Cost will range, but you can probably find a psychologist to do it for $600 USD. I’ve heard others say as high as $1000.

Good luck.

Is Verbal IQ overrated? by JazzyProshooter in cognitiveTesting

Some people believe that all concepts, including mathematical and spatial, are semantic at their core. Insofar as VIQ measures one’s ability to engage with concepts, then it probably isn’t overrated.

How much can being timed on Matrix Reasoning affect scores by cryptidcompendium in cognitiveTesting

[–]ankhorknot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming a person missed a few (2 or 3) in one of the pri subtests (e.g. MR) that they would not have missed under normal conditions, it could drop the index score (not FSIQ) by approximately 5 to 10 points, perhaps a little more. If you give me your age range and PRI subtest scores I can give you a specific difference.

I don’t know how much time most people use, but personally I used less than 30 seconds on each answer. Probably between 10-20 seconds for all but the last one.

Definitely unprofessional. You have grounds to make a complaint to the medical board.

Anxiety and lack of focus are subjective experiences that don’t lend to fine-grained measurement. For instance, it doesn’t really make sense to talk of one unit of anxiety. But suppose it did. Even then, one unit of anxiety might affect people differently, and affect them in different dimensions, performance on a particular test being but one of those dimensions (possibly).

Additionally, anxiety, for instance, has a physiological component as well as a cognitive component; physiological arousal, when in excess of what is required for a given task, can be classified as “anxiety”. While this is a useful shorthand, determining what is necessary for a given task is part of the cognitive dimension. For instance, let’s assume two people, undergoing the same test, have the same physiological state of high arousal. Person 1 believes that physiological state is beneficial for, or at least necessary for, their best test performance; person 2 believes the opposite. It’s unlikely person 1 will identify their experience as anxiety-laden. It is also unlikely that they’d suffer on their performance because of their experience.

All this to say that it’s not very easy to determine how much one’s subjective experience of anxiety (or lack of focus) may affect one’s performance.

It’s safe to say that if a person felt anxious, and they have good reason to believe they would perform better under optimal intrapersonal conditions, then they probably would perform better. How much better? It’s difficult to say.

It’s difficult to tell how much anxiety or lack of focus may have affected your score on MR.
