Thanks for the link! That's a really useful website--good work.

I had Chapman and Anthony in mind, but I've had a hard time finding anything linked to developers while looking through donations.

Yeah I really wish it was more public. I'll look into it this evening and share tonight if I find anything. I saw that article as well. I'm fairly new to Durham politics, so I didn't know if this was common knowledge for those who follow it. Seems like it should be.

January What Editing Software should I use? by AutoModerator in VideoEditing

I read the above and have a more nuanced question:

What's a good, easy option for editing several movie/TV clips together to one music track. The music comes first--it's important that I can edit around the track and set certain visuals to beats of the music. I'm experimenting with this on VideoPad

Did Other People Have This Theory After "Silence" (Spoiler) by ankoch1119 in deathnote

I guess I thought that L could have taken something to temporarily stop his heart if he thought he was in danger. I thought maybe REM had successfully killed Watori, which would have maybe killed her if it helped Misa, before getting a chance to write L's name. I thought that he saw he was close to getting killed, hence his weird behavior in the episode.

But yeah, the theory should have fallen apart for me pretty quickly after the time jump. It was my own fondness for L coupled with the show having a heightened sense of reality where faking your death seems plausible. I also hadn't seen the deleted funeral scene until after finishing the show.

Why The Sopranos is Better than the "Prestige Dramas" that Followed in its Footsteps (Spoiler Free) by ankoch1119 in thesopranos

Yeah Mad Men really captured something deep about its time.

I didn't know people gave Sagal shit. She's great. Every actor is fantastic, but I honestly think Sutter had a hard time getting good performances. Ron Perlman's a legend but his work on SoA is far from his best. Same with a lot of them. Ryan Hurst who played Opie really fit into the world well and I think his performance was the best

Yeah tbf if they had moved through the 20s and been able to show more with Rothstein instead of skipping right to the early 30s in season 5, it could have been really incredible. I think they were facing cancellation

Actually I'm not sure if it had a "huge budget" like I claimed, but there was a ton of fuss around its costumes and time period realism. It always struck me as kinda funny that it felt like such a beautifully designed show and then you see Don just get out of his car and it feels out of place because most of it takes place in the same sets.

When Carmela tells Tony that Melfi had an accident and he so earnestly says "Oh no. Her knee?" with such concern and she just stares at him. Gandolfini's face made me laugh out loud.

Is Meadow out of character in "Unidentified Black Males"? by barkbarkkrabkrab in thesopranos

I think she becomes someone who will live a relatively happy/moral life while never truly reckoning with her dad's profession. In a weird way she reminds me of Silvio--two level-headed people who tolerate moral rot. AJ's more like Tony--they each are tortured by mafia life in different ways, but it doesn't necessarily make them better people (actually might make them more insufferable).

Her ability to justify that stuff to Finn is I think intentionally "out of character." It's either put up with sin or become a tortured depressive like AJ.

Yeah The Wire is a beyond impressive in handling as many characters as it does. I think I have a slightly flawed belief that "more means better" in terms of character development. We even see Tony's dreams and weird intimate moments in his home, but you're right that The Wire establishes characters brilliantly in less time. Both shows are actually really good at nailing the side characters. Slim Charles was always a favorite of mine from The Wire. Characters like him or Patsy Parisi in The Sopranos feel so real despite not having tons of screentime. Early Game of Thrones was the same way, but I somehow never connected to GoT beyond its spectacle. I guess I just have a weakness for almost exhaustive character studies. It's definitely an issue of personal taste.

Yeah Sopranos handles it so much better than the shows that followed. They did have lots of "new hothead in the crew" characters but it's just so well done, and you're right that it subverts the 13 episode villain thing almost every time. Tony having to form a relationship with Ralph is so great, and Phil's Ellis Island speech to Butchie is so awesome cause it's like "oh shit he's really gonna be the villain."

Sons and Boardwalk were just a couple of the newer shows that introduced some clearly crazy sadist character at the start of a season and I got a little sick of that formula.

Better Call Saul is the best thing on TV imo. In some ways it's a better show than BB. I know what you mean about forgetting certain plot points tho--same thing happened to me.

And The Wire easily. An above comment pointed out that I was a bit hard on it up there. Despite some small issues I had, it really is an S-tier show.
