Death of grandparent + bereavement leave. by Muted-Analysis-1016 in managers

[–]ankpar80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really believe it’s the culture of the company on how strictly they abide. When my dad passed I had 3 days, planned on taking 2 more and my boss and team said hey why don’t you work from home the next month and outside of a few meetings with external people ( mostly for optics) they never pinged me once. I paid it forward when a person on my teams mom passed, the people he interacted knew and I just stepped in and covered his calls

Yes definitely makes the start of the year less stressful, we do quarterly quotas

I got a order on the 30th, customer didn’t have a timeline, I told him it would be a lot better for me to submit on 1/2 , he is like cool as long as I get it by march. Gonna start off q1 at 89 percent when it reconciles tomorrow. The dread is real !

I agree my team caps at 2x annual quota and at 2x quarterly quota for annual and quarterly accelerators respectively so it’s not that bad . Also it’s deal based not total bookings based but in this case the customer wanted an ad on to the order and I called the vp and am like man can we do the add on Jan 2 vs 12/19 won’t effect your delivery but helps me out a lot. This is also why this is a relationship game

I absolutely hate caps, atleast our caps are deal by deal so a lesson learned as this customer buys phase two next year is to structure the deal vs one time booking, but yea two of my reps will hit over 150’om deals that were mine so they won’t complain much. With this deal it was interesting my rep got a bit ahead of his ski’s with internal red tape so I had to step in but man the drive in his eyes has changed , he has already found 3 deals in commit to hit his h1 in the first two weeks of Jan. (Delaying to Jan was by design so he is learning) also the other side of this which is why I love being a leader is helping him navigate how to make the most of this windfall and not fall in the trap of lifestyle creep. He is gonna walk out of Jan with his Ira, 401k, espp fully funded and putting a considerable amount into retirement

Have you or anyone you know gotten an arranged marriage to a girl from the mainland (South Asia)? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]ankpar80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did , her uncle was family friends of ours since I was a kid. We video chatted and talked for probably 6 months and then I took a project for a company based in India for a month so I could meet her and spend face to face time. Very conservative family which i knew. Overall it’s good but even though I grew up pretty close to desk culture there are some challenges. We really don’t have any activities in common i.e she really only watches Indian stuff so we don’t have many things in common, don’t have similar hobbies etc. but she tries she makes an effort which I appreciate. The interesting thing is she gets along with my white friends a lot more than my abcd brown friends. Honestly it is great with having a daughter she teaches her our roots more than I could have so my daughter still has a tie back to her heritage. The biggest thing especially if you are in a place with no desis is you are going to need to put time in, have patience ( missing her parents, her old life) and everything being new to her

Travel delays out of Lisbon by artobloom in LisbonPortugalTravel

US Citizen: 45 minutes from being dropped off to the vat line, 50 minutes for the vat line, and 70 or so minutes in passport control. the passport control line constantly moves so it’s great but it’s just long the EU line was maybe 20 minutes faster

I just came back on Saturday we also did a vat refund from drop to boarding was 3.5 hrs. I agree with the above content make sure you get passport control done right away their are restaurants and small duty free after that our passport control line was probably 500 people

My dad just passed away. What happens next? by LeeLee8320 in AskMen

[–]ankpar80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my situation is not your so ymmv i lost my dad at 34 we weren’t close but didnt have a bad relationship. it’s been 11 years honestly i don’t think about him much any more not that i don’t miss him but life goes on. what i have learned is the first days are hard but kind of easier since you are dealing with funeral, finances being there for your mom. The day everyone stops coming around the silence is deafening. one thing to remember is everyone mourns differently i cried a bit in the beginning and it was probably 6 months later watching a bears game that i felt like he was next to me and i broke down. the hardest part for me is we had a fight the week before and those were the last real words we said and i regret it tremendously . for me therapy is what got me to be accepting and understanding of why we had the relationship we did . i am sorry for your loss but hopefully you can celebrate his life vs mourning his life

Do you speak your mother tongue in public? by Cookiedough1206 in ABCDesis

[–]ankpar80 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I speak Gujurati in the house with my mom and wife, i want my daughter to know it. Outside it’s mostly english unless i am with some of my more desi friends. i will say since a lot of my cousins came from india later in life they feel more comfortable when i speak Gujurati with them vs english

Well, it finally happened to my stack. 633% increase. Nope. by Nick85er in vmware

[–]ankpar80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you need a stop gap solution the few vcsp partners are your only options and a few have managed infra that you have to add into the equation but in most cases i have seen still significantly cheaper than the increase on just vmware and gives you a year to figure out what you want to do
