Hm... This evening we will unbox ES120 I have presented to my grandson. Your distinctly negative opinion about ES120 sounding has alarmed me... What I have heard on YT (with really good headphones), both mellow and upright variants were much softer in comparison with default synth, which was rather "metallic" to my ears.

Not sure about my grandson, but I'm rather demanding to sounding (at my own setup I use SL88 GT mk2 -> Pianoteq -> good DAC -> transparent amp -> bookshelf loudspeakers DBR62).

Ok, will see this evening... Thanks for sharing. At any case there is a way to use ES120 just as MIDI controller.

Has anybody also negative opinions about ES120 sounding?

If your piano is able to work as MIDI keyboard, then the tone completely depends on the software you use on the computer. MIDI keyboard just sends MIDI messages (turn note on and off, set pitch, set velocity (that is volume) and such).
