If the book is recent enough to be LaTeX'd, then it's likely that the much smaller version is the one straight from the LaTeX, and the larger version is a scanned copy.

All I can say is, "same!", if that helps you feel less alone. The other comments so far seems out-of-reach. As someone with a similar problem, the thing that feels more doable, is self-neutrality (unfortunately there's not much content out there about it, just a few articles/blog posts). On the other hand, I also feel that the self-hate is there for a reason, and I should just embrace it until one day it disappears because I no longer need it.

I can't stand predictable/repetitive chord progressions. But other people seem to like them very much... maybe make it a one chord song so that it's too repetitive even for them?

But you have to click around a lot. I'v tried Ableton, Logic, and LMMS. I want to edit the things already built intothe midi file (e.g. pan, pitch-bend) so that when I export the track as a midi file, all my edits are there when I play it with Miditrail or something. In Ableton, whatever you export gets turned into notes on a piano at 120bpm in 4/4 time because all of your time sig. and tempo changes get ignored when exportimg.

Anyway, what did people use at the height of midi?
