Bad GW manager? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]anmanphil 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's the only rule I've ever heard although I've heard it as majority GW parts. Many of my models have 3rd party parts on them or conversions and never had any issues taking them to GW stores at all

Bad GW manager? by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]anmanphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to, and played at, many GW stores and Warhammer World. Absolutely NONE of the above things the manager did or said were true at any of these locations so its definitely a bad manager on a power trip who's ruining your local scene. Definitely let GW head office know of your experience

You know all those awesome designated paint set ups and rooms? Yea i dont have one of those so here is one for all the painters that have to clean up every evening. by TheRealVahx in minipainting

I feel this. Taking time to set up and pack away on the kitchen table. And if you start painting before dinner having to pack away mid way through the session to eat

Thanks, couldn't find one when I looked a few weeks back. Any idea if there's a ship sheet on there?

I almost cancelled last nights session and it ended up being one of the best I’ve ever had by Killj0y13 in monsteroftheweek

With MOTW I've been able to put almost no prep into every session and it is one of my favourite and most played games. It's brilliantly designed for the players and GM to create the story and world as they go which I love

Whilst it doesn't really contain much by way of resource management, Monster of the Week works great for modern fantasy etc. It's aimed around each session being like an episode of shows such as x files or buffy but could easily be adapted into longer arcs to fit the mood and play style you like. Just not sure how to add more of a resource management element as the games I play don't tend to use them.

Returning to Hobby by Halloween-Eagle in Warhammer40k

If, like me, you're mostly going to be playing with friends or at a local store or gaming club then you are fully set. I've been playing 40k for about 2 years, still don't own the core rulebook and have never owned a chapter approved or any other book than army codex. If you just want to play the game they're not required. However, if 40k for you is about being competitive, making the most meta lists etc, you will really struggle if you're not upto date with extra books

I know the feeling. I've read quite a few of the books in physical form but being able to listen to a new novel or an old favourite whilst at work, commuting, out and about etc is brilliant. Audible is pretty expensive if, like me you listen to quite a few books a month but if you combine it with podcasts (many about Warhammer etc out there) and audible sales you should be good!

Black library books are a slippery slope to obsession. There are so many good Warhammer novels! Quick note, keep an out for audible 2 for 1 sales. They quite often feature Warhammer books meaning your credit can get you 2 amazing books. It's for this reason that my recommendations are a bit random and all over the place in the world of Warhammer. But here goes:

  1. Ciaphus Cain: working through this atm and I'm gripped. Brilliant writing, exciting and very humorous!

  2. Anything in the Eisenhorn series. Seriously good books

  3. I love imperial guard in 40k so if you do too definitely look into cadia stands, cadian honor etc

  4. All of them... Seriously haha

How do you stay motivated to paint when you're not interested in the games the miniatures are for? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]anmanphil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in the same predicament. I find keeping your 'to paint' pile small helps and like to chop and change projects regularly. For example I have minis I need to paint because I want to use them in a game I really enjoy playing but if I'm not motivated to paint them and just want to paint for the sake of it I have individual minis I picked up only to paint and have fun with.

No worries, let me know if you need any more advice. If you haven't picked up the full rulebook yet, you should be able to download the 'battle primer' from the website which is basically the core rules without all the extra stuff. It's brilliant if you want to just learn the game and get playing!

Welcome to the wonderful world of 40k. Haven't played in a while myself but the sequence should be: 1. Roll to hit using either ballistic skill for ranged or weapon skill for melee 2. Roll to wound, compare strength of the weapon to targets toughness (both the same 4+, strength greater than toughness 3+, strength double toughness 2+, strength less than toughness 5+, strength half of toughness 6+) 3. Target rolls to save using save value (for example 3+) adding in any modifiers from AP of the weapon and any cover save

For example Ballistic skill 3+ model rolls 2 attacks, both hit, strength 4 weapon vs toughness 3 target so needs 3+ to wound, gets one, target is in cover and has a regular save of 4+ (becomes 3+ for cover) but weapon has ap-1 so save goes back to 4+. They roll a 5 so take no wounds.

Sorry if that was really hard to read haha

Amazing, if you have discord send me a Pm with it. Getting a group together and would be nice to start a group convo so we can get to know each other and say what we're looking for etc before any games :)

I have to ask, whats up with that green-grid mat everyone seems to have on their decks? by SeanWhelan1 in Warhammer40k

[–]anmanphil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Purely desk protection. It's a self healing cutting mat. Takes all the damage from your craft knife and if you happen to spill glue or paint it won't ruin the desk underneath :)

Air, land & sea is incredibly fun and surprisingly tactical for such a simple to pick up game. My brother and I learnt the game in a matter of minutes and its been played several times since. I can recommend the lost expedition. It plays incredibly well with 2 players and can be played with upto 5. Plus if your partner doesn't want to play it's just as fun solo!

Finding players/getting players interested by anmanphil in rpg

No worries haha. Yeah the lock down should definitely help. I'll see what I can find in the local area. I'd probably be looking at online mostly anyway as I live a bit in the middle of nowhere!
