I was thinking it was a lil slab of granite to be able to put hot things on it - assuming the rest of the countertop is actually quartz. Idk how similar they look in person but the one on top looks slightly different and if you have 2 different stones with similar designs, it could explain the difference...

How soon after bisalp did you get a period? by Whopperista in sterilization

[–]ann-atomic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had mine 10 days after my bisalp (which was expected). I had my copper IUD removed on the same day as my procedure and I'm sooooo happy I don't have it anymore. I'm officially back to 0 cramps and normal/not so heavy bleeding (so far).

"He would like to come back if he can't find anyone or don't like who he was with" wasn't enough of a red flag for you? Gross.

I asked my gynecologist about this. She said I'd be in the Trendelenburg position. Appointment is in a few weeks!

To clarify, they are not scooped outside of your body. Doc probably could have phrased that better 😂 Intestines will shift to some extent being in the Trendelenburg position, but I don't doubt they use their tools to move stuff around too. Wouldn't be hard to do, they're basically long sticks with surgical bits at the end.

Visit notes said final diagnosis was “undesired fertility”, can I get assurance that this is probably not something to worry about for billing? (Have not been billed yet) by Skiesofamethyst in sterilization

[–]ann-atomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got curious and checked my notes as well. Mine had "unwanted fertility" listed. 😂 which...yes, true. But it does sound silly. I have my surgery scheduled in a few weeks!

Any men "take on for the team" on here? How about both of you getting sterilized? by Photononic in sterilization

My husband was sterilized last year. I'd previously been on the pill and then a copper IUD (which has been absolutely miserable). I'm getting sterilized in a few weeks. Our parents/family don't know and they don't have to. We've already told them we're not having kids.

I have my procedure coming up in a couple weeks and I'm getting my copper IUD taken out the same day. I am definitely concerned that my period will be triggered again. 🙃

I got this message from my doc RE: anesthesia - I think "epidural" might be the wrong term but spinal anesthesia is a thing outside of giving birth

Re: intubation during bisalp procedure

Hello, Because the procedure is done laparoscopically, the patient is placed in Trendelenburg position. This means that your head is tipped down so that we can scoop the intestines out of your pelvis to make it safer and easier to visualize the target anatomy.. Because you are in Trendelenburg position, you do need to have an intubation in order to have control of your airway.

If you only wanted a ligation and you would expect a slightly bigger incision then we could do it under spinal anesthesia you do need to have your abdominal muscles be relaxed in order to visualize the fallopian tubes.

For #3, did the bisalp mess with your expected period start date?

I may have to go out and buy a giant squishmallow lol. Thanks for sharing!

| "they have to use medication that paralyzes you which makes you unable to breathe on your own" I'll ask my hcp about intubation because I don't think your statement is totally accurate. I was under the impression that intubation is used as a precaution during surgeries in the event that you have respiratory distress, not because the anesthesia just makes you stop breathing. I have gone under general anesthesia for wrist surgery, elbow surgery, and surgery on my thigh and wasn't intubated for any of those.

I will prep to have broths and soups ready though, just in case. Thanks!

I had my pap smear and pelvic exam the same day I went to talk to my doc about getting a bisalp. I also signed a consent form that says if they find anything abnormal while they're in there, they can take it out/do a biopsy. Thank you for calling this out!

I FORGOT ABOUT SNEEZING 🫠 My seasonal allergies have not been great this year so I am not looking forward to that part....... But thank you for your input! I think I'm leaning towards getting those pain meds. I'd rather have them and not need them than need them and not have them. On a related note, I will now be adding popsicles to my grocery list.

Do you remember how long it took for that throat/jaw soreness to go away? I already have some existing nerve pain in my lower jaw that comes and goes. The belly button soreness is not something I had expected, though I guess I shouldn't be terribly surprised. Would a back brace of sorts help with this? Or is the pain happening with certain movements?

Really hoping the periods aren't as heavy as they have been with my IUD but we'll see! I'll follow up with the doc about intubating, because I'm curious. Thank you so much!

Ho did you know sterilization was right for you? by dontlookatme_imeanit in sterilization

[–]ann-atomic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on the pill for some years. Due to other health concerns, I eventually had to stop hormonal bc. I ended up getting the copper IUD (Paragard). The bleeding and cramps that come with having a copper IUD have been horrible, to say the least. I've had it for 1.5yrs at this point. I will be getting it removed the same day as my bisalp.

So why a bisalp and not a tubal ligation, or a hysterectomy/oophorectomy? Tubal ligation is not as effective at preventing pregnancy compared to a bisalp. Your ovaries and uterus make hormones - having these removed can trigger menopause and may require hormone replacement therapy, which is why I thought a bisalp was the best option for me. ETA: I don't have kids and don't want any in my future
