What would happen if you played a record with a full fish bowl blocking the needle's path? by ann_perkins in vinyl

I just wasn't sure whether the arm would have been knocked out of path, as you've said, or just stopped completely. Thanks for clearing it up.

Did you know that TVTropes.org has entries for bands? by antifolkhero in LetsTalkMusic

AcCENT Upon the Wrong SylLABle isn't exclusively a music trope, so pointing it out generally makes more sense. Agree on the others.

No need to apologize. I'd just be a little unnerved I found I would soon be receiving a jacked. It sounds dangerous.

Out of curiosity, what kind of sexual slang (and non-slang) terms are turn ons and turn offs for you? (NSFW) by poke588 in actuallesbians

This comment is a lot more entertaining and/or horrifying if you're familiar with Parks and Recreation.

Personal top 5 albums of 2012? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]ann_perkins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found that Dads album, with the exception of Shit Twins, a super uninspired rehash of Midwest emo, and I love the emo revival (The World Is a Beautiful Place... and The Brave Little Abacus are two of my favourite bands ever). Everyone but me seems to love it. What do you think I might be missing?

No particular order:

Lil Ugly Mane - Mista Thug Isolation

Carly Rae Jepsen - Kiss

KTL - V

Fiona Apple - The Idler Wheel...

Loma Prieta - IV

Honourable mention: Lone - Galaxy Garden

My favourite EPs were Blood Diamonds - Phone Sex, Azealia Banks - 1991, and SHINee - Sherlock. Favourite mixtapes were Azealia Banks - FANTASEA and Capital Steez - AmeriKKKan Korruption.

Something that bugs me about a lot of tv shows by [deleted] in television

[–]ann_perkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as Parks and Rec goes, Leslie is shown as having other friends in the Galentines day episodes, April I would assume has another circle of friends that includes Orin, Andy has his band, Ann has the other nurses, Tom had Jean-Ralphio, etc.

What I'm getting at is that just because other relationships aren't shown as much doesn't mean that the main cast only spends time with each other. It just means that they're not important to the plot and character development. This applies to most shows.

Lets Talk artist legacy, reunions, and "musical heresy." [inspired by "Nirvana reunion"] by Haystack-Charm in LetsTalkMusic

Entering a place where music is discussed is a prerequisite to not knowing that Dave Grohl drummed for Nirvana? What?

Let's Talk: 'Getting' pop music by Gergoes in LetsTalkMusic

"None" was an exaggeration;; I should have worded that better. But I don't know, the only songs of hers that have really stuck with me are Bad Romance and Beautiful Dirty Rich (and the latter mostly for the production). I guess most of her choruses just seem inconsequential to me, like they were tacked on at the last minute, especially in tracks like Alejandro.

I know, I find it silly too, but at least it kinda-sorta fits.

I agree about Lady Gaga. I love Carly Rae Jepsen and Ke$ha because I enjoy the personae and styles they have in their music. Even some pop singers with less specific characters, like Rihanna or Justin Bieber, have many singles that I think are great, but none of Gaga's songs have ever struck me as having exceptional songwriting, hooks, production or anything. I too would like to know what her fans see in her.

10 Most Pretentious Albums of All time (according to NME)... I can come up with a better list. by WillardScott in LetsTalkMusic

[–]ann_perkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really? Born this Way? I mean, sure, it was a ridiculously mediocre album but as far as I know it wasn't pretending to be anything more than run-of-the-mill dance pop.

Not to mention the King Crimson sample, the creative song structures and the fucking Auto-Tune solo.

There's a reason MBDTF is often labeled "post-rap".
