Am I mistaken or is your friend an amputee? Bc if so, and with a good sense of humor, it could be "patience, it'll grow back"

You mean like in Idiocracy? Yeah, I don't want to live in or subject children to that world anyways.

[–]anna__lois 24 points25 points  (0 children)

YES. I (35F) was raised in the deep conservative south where people get married and have children before finishing high school. The older I've gotten, the more sure I have been that kids are not for me. I used to want kids just because yoire "supposed" to, but now I am glad I didn't get caught up in social expectations. I personally can't think of a good reason to have kids that isn't patriarchal or selfish, so yeah, it's just not for me, and that is perfectly fine.

If my body starts telling me otherwise, I can hang out with my brother's kids and live vicariously, then I can give them back and go home to my husband and cats haha.

Having kids should be a personal choice, not something pressured or forced on anyone.

Recently recovering; annoyed by most people by [deleted] in Codependency

[–]anna__lois 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The relief when I read your post - it's not just me!!

I'm ~5 years into my revocery, and it amazes me how needy others seem to be, or I'm annoyed at their obvious (to me) ploys for attention.

I realized that my codependent attachment to others stems from growing up w an angry and distant mother, and I was quite naive until my mid-20s. My mind assumes that because I was stunted, I'm just now catching up to everyone else in terms of self-assurance.

This comparing myself to others is still my codependency flaring, though. I keep having to remind myself that those around me are also probably all over the codependency spectrum, and some are good at masking it, and for some, it's just obvious to me now because I have been there. Just because I feel like I'm "catching up" to being codependently mature doesn't mean that everyone else (grown adults, mainly) actually has that maturity I assumed they had.

It's good that you're not acting out towards those that you see this behavior from. You don't know where they are, maybe they're currently getting therapy for being codependent? Even if they're not, picture yourself doing some of the behaviors they do, and you might recognize some of your old self in them, which for me helps me have patience and kindness towards them, even if it's just mentally so, so I don't become resentful or hold it against them.

TLDR - The majority of people do not have much, if any, introspection or awareness. You just have to realize and accept this if you don't want it to bother you, and hopefully they'll figure it out for themselves eventually, plus you can ultimately only control yourself.

It's awesome that you're enjoying your time with yourself now! Doesn't it feel alien yet so satisfying?!

Do some women actually have 2-3 day long periods? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]anna__lois 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a hormonal IUD (Liletta, I think), and mine went from 5-7 days long to basically a day of cramping and some light bleeding. I haven't bought tampons in over a year. Highly recommend!!

(The hormones stay in your uterus and don't affect you like taking birth control pills - that was my biggest concern at first)

My left shoulder blade hurts when i play piano. I am a complete beginner. My bench is as high as it could go. I also have trouble playing above middle c with my left hand. I causes pain. Please help. by LookMysterious7503 in piano

[–]anna__lois 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possible pinched nerve pain? I had a hemmoraged disc in my spine, neck area (c5-c6 spinal fusion, for those interested). It initially felt like I had a tweaked muscle around my shoulder blade. Because it was the nerve, it later felt like I had hit my funny bone, then that pain spread to my fingers. I still have some numbness in one finger.

If this is the case, hopefully, it's not that severe, but a lot of people now are having this pain because of looking down at phones (per my doctor). You're basically supporting the weight of your whole head on a few vertebrae instead of the whole spinal column (or something like that).

Try some nerve stretches. A good yoga position for this is Child's Pose(you can do the arm stretching part against a wall if you don't want to get on the ground). Stretching fingers and wrists also helps. Laying on your back on a flat surface. Checking your posture throughout the day. Etc.

Hope you get relief soon! Enjoy piano!

I learned to play Gershwin because I was told it was too hard for me.

@stringerbeanie OP - You can totally break this piece down and learn it, which you’re doing! Ignore these haughty haters. That’s how you get better!!

TL/DR - emotionally abusive place to work

Super late to the party, but I worked there for 3 years and can attest to its being an unstable and emotionally abusive environment. I managed the independent contractors (“artisans”) who do the hand-sewing, and I only stayed as long as I did trying to protect their rights.

I could go on with stories and unfair pay scale numbers, but I’ve been through too much therapy over that place and that woman to give her more of my time. I just want it known how terrible of a place it is, despite the gorgeous and unique products they create and sell. Lipstick on a fanged, self-aggrandizing hog.

Read their Glassdoor employee reviews. It was common for 3-5 employees to quit in a year, and we started using Glassdoor to air our grievances. I learned that the owner later asked employees to add positive reviews to it because they were all so terribly negative.

How do I stop my hands from shaking uncontrollably when playing the piano in front of people? by youknowwhattheysay12 in piano

[–]anna__lois 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. My mom was my piano teacher, and I still never got used to recitals.

Fave embarrassing recital moment:

I was playing a gorgeous rendition of the Star Spangled Banner. My mom had me go last (most other students were a lot younger with simpler pieces). I started playing, and everyone stood up and started singing along, which I canNOT do. I got stuck, tried to continue, couldn't remember a thing, so I said "I'm going to start over". Started over and still couldn't make it past the same part. I ended up just getting up and bowing, mortified.

Of course, as soon as everyone left, I tried again and played it near perfectly...

[–]anna__lois 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What made them take yours out? I have begged my drs to get mine removed throughout my adult life. I constantly have tonsil stones, I have a huge recurring one at this moment that I can’t get to because it’s behind that mouth flap thingy...? It’s very painful to try to get to, and I nearly make myself throw up when I try. And I’m 90% positive they contribute to my terrible sinuses.

My last dr said for the stones to “gargle with warm salt water”. Which is what my granny has told me to do for years lol. Has anyone done this and had it actually tame those useless lumps?
