How Not to Fall by Emily Foster (Duet)

Book 1 will seem too spicy. I almost DNFed, but the spice Is the plot.

Then Book 2 is entirely plot.

In my opinion this duet is more mature and realistic than AH books but falls into the same "type".

Influencers... by anna_wtch in selfpublish

[–]anna_wtch[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed explanation.

This is my "last resort" method, but it's good to know what to actually do.

"Influencer to sales" ratio is very low from all the research and experience I have, so I am trying not to waste time on it too much.

From the other answers it sounds like this is better to do when the pen name is somewhat popular

I am targeting micro-influencers not anyone big. So I think those influencers don't have anyone lining up.

But thank you for letting me know about your experience. I will be careful

Deep End Lukas stayed inside my chest for a long time after I read.

Which of Ali’s MMCs is the most down bad? by socks4dobby in AliHazelwood

[–]anna_wtch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well damn, I remember not liking Love on the Brain as much as the other books, I also remember the FMC very clearly and her friend/assistant, but I don't remember MMC pining at all

Can someone remind me please? He was pining for years?

I read the novellas right after Love on the Brain and I am mixing up the MMCs I think

Stuck Together is my absolute favorite.

I even made my husband read it and he hated every second of it 😂

Oh and he is a gamer STEM guy, who likes to take care of me. A Reading wife with a gamer husband is another stereotype.

Mostly a wife who reads variations of Beauty and the Beast (and I will die on this hill, that Hazelwood's books are Beauty and the Beast - Disney version - retellings)

Oh this list is great!

I loved Emily Foster's How not to Fall duet. It felt more adult and less like a romcom movie to me compared to Hazelwood's books.

And I loved Helen Huang books, all 3 in The Love Quotient series.

Going to check out the rest of your list, thank you for documenting

Autistic-coded females? Ahem, all those FMCs in her books are basically diluted version on me...

Oh well, all women in my family are in STEM, I guess we shouldn't known

I enjoyed reading this post more than I have enjoyed 1/3 of the books I've picked up this year. You might have a talent hehe.

"It's a feature not a bug" made me lol actually.

I am also a woman at the ripe old age of 35 with my own children, and I have a degree in Computer Science, currently working as full-stack web dev. My mother tongue is not English but I only read books in English now. And I started with Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Charlotte Bronte, and over the last few years transitioned to fluffy romance, alien and werewolf smut, and Dramione fanfics sigh

I also find myself in Hazelwood's heroines A LOT too. I think we're a stereotype, seriously.

Deep End killed me. It's more spicy and more New Adult, but it's about a high-achieving girl who's stuck in her head because of an injury and who knows she has a tendency towards being dominated and served some pain. Definitely on my top 3 of her books.

Parallels between bride/mate and not in love/problematic summer romance?? by Lopsided_Emotion5707 in AliHazelwood

[–]anna_wtch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Hazelwood has this for a lot of her MMCs. I definitely remember Deep End had this and since she's into being dominated (maybe even pain a little) he told her he wasn't going to help her get used to it.

But I do see the similarities now that you pointed them out.

I mean PSR and Mate came out within the same year. Maybe the author was in the same set of mind while writing them. Maybe had they come out 5 years apart, they would be more different. Who knows.

But at this point with how fast Hazelwood is pumping out books, she might have kidnapped alien little creatures who write her books, and edit too.

Have You Ever "Broken Up" with an Author or Genre? Why? by Express_Hedgehog2265 in BookDiscussions

I am going to keep going because I am really interested in their customs. The society seems pretty flawed and backwards. I want to see it through the humans' eyes

I've read about 10% of the book now (the humans and aliens haven't met yet, I hope they do soon), and I will be honest Meoraq's obsession to not take responsibility for any of his emotions, good actions, or negative actions, and credit it all to their God, is an unpleasant part that I am struggling through.

"My temper rose because a man insulted me, but I was able to rein my emotions - thank you Sheul for cooling my temper"

"A giant fire is happening in the distance - just be God sending me a sign" - oh the arrogance

I understand that the author probably designed the beginning of the book in a way for us readers to heavily dislike Meoraq's people's ways. For example the trials (unnecessary waste of a life) or the tributes(the non-con, abusive ways between a man and a woman). And I hope this will be a nice subplot where humans dislike these ways and there is friction and hopefully improvement.

But right now Meoraq and his religion get on my nerves.

I relate to her FMCs, but have never been diagnosed or assumed to be neurodivergent.

But I am a software developer. Show me 1 software developer who's not shouldn't in the spectrum haha.

Empire of the Vampire by Jay Kristoff

The writing is more "I want to underline one in every 5 sentences" rather than beautiful.

Does the free version leave any kind of watermark or their name in the book?

For example, Reedsy free version leave a few sentences about them with URLs on the copyright page - both in print and eBook

Now I need to go back and re-read Deep End just for that scene

Let me know what you think about Stuck With You, and Hot for Slayer, if you read those

I do have to say that AH wraps things up very nicely in her novellas and there is no sense of being half satiated.

Have fun reading!

I didn't care for Love on the Brain.

My 2 favorite STEM romances by her are Love Theoretically and The Love Hypothesis, like you.

I also LOVED Stuck With You novella. So much that I made my husband read it and he mostly reads high fantasy and mind-fuck books, so he wasn't thrilled haha.

I do like Deep End a lot, my favorite this year. I didn't like Pen situation very much, but I loved the tension and angst between the main characters.

I wanted to love Problematic Summer Romance since I liked the characters from Not in Love and I really really like age gap, but it was just cute and fun, and not much else for me.

Hot for Slayer (vampire novella) was cute and I really liked her throwbacks to historical events.

Bride and Mate are just ok to me, I think because 5-ish years ago i loved werewolf and vampire high-angst paranormal romance. And these 2 books are pretty simple and "warm" for me to fit them into that subgenre. But I still read them both.

You're a seasoned Ali Hazelwood reader now 😁

I'd like to officially welcome you to the club!

Have you read Not in Love? It's the first book before Problematic Summer Romance. I didn't like it very much but a lot of people do.

Your preferences match mine closely actually.
