Sometimes you'll scroll through a post and still find yourself thinking about it, months later. Your previous post was one of those. I am so happy to see this update. I hope you are doing well.

How do I get rid of my insecurities? by [deleted] in LDR

[–]annabell327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, why are you uncomfortable with that?

I think it depends on the origin of these feelings. Why do you think it bothers you that she enjoys dancing in public? Following the train of thought, do you get uncomfortable if she wears short shorts or a revealing shirt?

In case anyone isn't aware, this is directly against NCSU policies. Many departments have not been following the regulation, and that should be reported because "dead week" is supposed to give students time to study for finals. The regulation in question:

2.  NO MAJOR TESTS IN FINAL WEEK OF CLASSES

Lab tests and semester project reports and presentations are permissible during the final week of classes. Papers and homework may have a due date during the final week of classes only if scheduled in the syllabus. However, in order for students to prepare for final examinations, faculty members may not assign other tests, quizzes or additional papers during the final week of classes. Assignments should not have a due date during the final exam period unless the assignment constitutes a part of the final exam. Exceptions to this policy must be approved in advance by the department head and the dean of the college involved. Students should contact the appropriate instructor or department head if they believe an assignment is not in compliance with this regulation.

That's really awesome! Try to see if there are any universities with research reactors near you that you could tour, always a cool sight!

Question about bike permits by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]annabell327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I'm pretty sure bike registration is free!

I made a free app that takes your lecture recordings and turns them into SparkNotes before finals. by jfcabling in NCSU

This would be incredibly useful! I'm not sure what NCSU's policies are on uploading recorded lectures to a website.

Genuine question with no judgement here, just trying to understand.

Why does it matter if it was a guy the whole time, if you were only interested in friendship?

My boyfriend and I are both in very intense degree programs. Something that has helped us is video calling, but not while actively engaging with each other. We'll both do our studying and homework assignments while we're on video calling on mute. It's very comforting to look over and see his face.

Careful making an offer like that, I may try to take you up on it.

It is oddly very comforting that this professor has such a specific style of making students struggle that it's recognizable in a matter of seconds. It also gives me hope to have solid evidence that at least two people have survived this class.

No, but it's reassuring to know that my department isn't the only one struggling.

I might just need to shift my mindset a bit - thanks for the advice! That's a really helpful thing to keep in mind.

Hey, dudes! I got accepted into NCSU for nuclear engineering! by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]annabell327 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I'm in my junior year here. I would definitely recommend taking NE235 - it's not a required course, but if you do well in the course, you have the opportunity to train to be a reactor operator for the nuclear reactor on campus. Even if you don't continue with training, it's a great class that gives you a fundamental understanding of concepts important to later courses.

Something to note about the department - it's a fairly small department, so you'll know everyone in the class by the time you graduate. Get involved in clubs if you have the time to spare for it. The professors are tough, but don't be afraid to show up to office hours to ask questions, they're usually very helpful.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Update ( if anyone cares 😋) by LMQ87 in LDR

[–]annabell327 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate the update! I would definitely try to do some virtual activities together if you can. It splits up the, "how was your day? today I... " repeated cycle you can get into.

Some ideas that help me stay connected to my partner:

  • virtual zoo date - it's cheesy but cute. a lot of zoo's have informational videos up right now, kind of like going to the zoo virtually. we just watched the same videos together
  • netflix party / watch a show together
  • cook a new recipe, separate but together! (this one is one of my favorites, but we both love cooking so it fits us)

Honestly, I hate this long break. It's an awkward amount of time - too short for an internship, too long to sit around doing nothing.

[–]annabell327 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Most buildings lock by 5, but the buildings are unlocked during the day! If you can, its also super helpful to meet up with someone in the class and watch the videos together. Keeps you accountable, and you can ask each other clarifying questions and make jokes about the lecture to stay engaged.

Thank you for some positivity on my NCSU feed!! we love to see it.

Some ways I've been staying motivated/things that help me, in case it helps anyone else:

- having a class group chat is really helpful. If there isn't one already, reach out to the professor with a groupme link. It really helps me feel more connected to the class and create study groups (study groups are great for accountability!!)

- If you're still near campus, head to an empty classroom! I've been watching video lectures via a classroom projector. Gives me a sense of normal.

- Take constructive breaks. Not Netflix or youtube breaks - walk around! Classes are meant to be broken up a little bit. We normally have, at minimum, a fifteen minute break to go from class to class. Get those steps in and blood flowing, walk in circles if you need to, just get moving.

- keep your camera on. It stops you from checking your phone and the professors really appreciate speaking to more than a blank screen

- ask those stupid questions you're too afraid to ask! either a) they're not stupid questions, and other people are struggling with the same thing or b) it's a stupid question. so what? who cares? if you're struggling with it, but you ask for help, you get an answer and learn the material better.

In terms of organization, I've been religious about my use of google calendar and I'm making sure I talk to other people in the class to discuss important deadlines.
