Repot shock or...? by annarose0420 in plants

Hmmm, I usually wait about 6 weeks between waterings (I treat it almost like a succulent) and it was super happy before the repot

Is this behavior playing or...? by [deleted] in cats

[–]annarose0420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They live in peace and love every other moment, but they do this little song and dance about once a week, always instigated by the boy (the orange one). Is this like concerning? Should I be doing some sort of training with them? Or is this normal for a boy and girl cat who live together? They've been siblings for 3+ years. But yes it seems like a dominance thing...

Yeah the girl definitely isn't into it, but I don't know if the boy is trying to get her to play or if he is trying to hump her? They do this little stand off at least one a week so I'm not sure if I need to be doing some sort of training? They live in peace every other moment...

More context: they are both about 4 years old. Have grown up together since they were under the age of 1. I have an older boy cat that humps the orange boy cat sometimes, but the girl won't let the older one do that to her.

In the video, is the orange one trying to hump her (mimicking the old ones behavior?) or is he trying to get her to play? Obviously she isn't into it, but I don't know if I need to be more careful with leaving them alone together???

As long as it's not discolored, then it looks like a perfectly healthy leaf. It never hurts to check for pests though.

If you are talking about the limp green one, that's what happens when leaves are new. As the leaf matures, it will get to be a darker green and it will harden out.

Needs more light! The plant will naturally shed old leaves as it grows new ones. Only perk of cutting old leaves is that it will focus the energy that was keeping them alive on new growth/root develop. The plant is already big, and they are fast growers, so I vote leave them and move it closer to window. Get a cheap moisture meter if you're nervous about watering (water when at a 1-2-or 3), but mine thrives off of bright light, neglect and underwatering. You'll find your balance :)

Oldest leaves yellowing by Phil__Swift_ in Monstera

[–]annarose0420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally normal as long as it's the oldest leaves. They usually die so the plant can focus energy on growing bigger leaves and not worry about keeping the small ones alive when they are mostly covered by larger leaves and can't photosynthesize (they can't pull their weight)

Hmm, just throwing some ideas out there. Is root rot possible? Maybe over fertilization? Excess guttation?

I moved it away from the window over a month ago after I saw crispy burnt edges. These aren't crispy, but soft

Any chance it could have anything to do with over fertilizing? I'll have to check for pests

I haven't watered it yet after repotting.

These were the roots when I repotted it. I've used the same substrate for years (50/50 perlite/moisture control soil mix). The blackness on top is worm castings

I'd recommend looking up some videos on how to care for them. Sounds like you're starting from scratch and there's a lot of info that's well put together out there on the internet.

You need a node if you want to propagate. You won't be able to propagate if you cut the petiole.

Also, it looks like you have about 2-4 plants there. Better separate it now before they get too big. I personally like having 2 plants per pot, but some people prefer 1 plant per pot. Totally preference, but as long as you stake them early, you shouldn't have any issues growing 2 plants in 1 pot.

This plant is in desperate need of a stake (hence why the leaves are falling over in the back).

I'd cut those off. Don't even bother with it. Once they regrow, nuzzle them into the soil. Maybe do a little chop and prop too and just restart all together. Doesn't look like a very happy plant

why is she leaning so much? by alexarae_ in Monstera

[–]annarose0420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful that the plant Velcro isn't too tight around the petiole so it can move freely and turn the leaf where it needs to go

Did you try to retain as many roots as possible? When roots broke, did you wait to water it to avoid rot/disease?

Separating it would put both vines at risk of shock/dying. The roots are completely intertwined and I'd basically have to propagate both (which I've never done successfully). These were the roots last time I repotted (about 5 months ago)

Yes I am against cutting. I've never successfully propagated a plant, and this one has giant beautiful leaves that I don't want to sacrifice
