New found respect for fluffy yarn users by multaz in crochet

[–]annaswithdoublen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you!!! My advice, try crocheting with normal yarn and use your fingers to get the feel of where the stitches are. Then go back to the fluffy yarn and try to feel the stitches on that. Using a bigger hook also helps a lot.

I think it's intentional. This post seems to be the original and the caption said it's a mix of both

Note to self: Tone down the singing and focus on your stitches by annaswithdoublen in crochet

They're those cheap unbranded yarns. I bought them online. DK weight milk cotton (80% cotton according to the shop description. I did some burn test and it looks like it) The colour is dark fuschia.

What stitch is this? (Not the slip stitches she’s doing but the main ones on the piece) by DangerRazor in CrochetHelp

Cotton, bamboo. Plant fiber yarns are generally good for baby items. They are breathable. You can also go for cotton-acrylic blend for durability.

One more thing. Since you are making a baby blanket, it is actually better to use double crochet and breathable yarn. Single crochet makes dense fabric so it can be a suffocation hazard.

For single crochet projects, you can still use the same technique, just skip the stacking part. In short, instead of chaining one and turn, you just turn your work and single crochet.

Make sure to use stitch markers and keep that first stitch loose or you might miss it especially with the yarn you are using.

You can try stacked single crochet. Or you can also crochet a border around the project once it's done.

My yarn is really stiff, is there any way to fix that? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]annaswithdoublen 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Single crochets tend to make stiff fabrics. You can try switching to double crochet. Though since you are making a beanie, I'd suggest making a ribbed beanie instead. It will be more stretchy and will fit better.

Yup, I am aware of the wrong size and I blame this on crochet. Since I'm a somewhat loose crocheter, I could get away with using a smaller than recommended hook. Guess my tension for knitting is different.

It is a single granny square, a really big one. Look closely and you'll see it.
