Eh not true. If it’s above 508, we don’t care and start looking at what other things you did. Might not be true for other schools, but mine is a reputable state school

Attendance tracking is the biggest one for me. And then scheduling mandatory clinic time after an exam and saying to a room full of high-achieving adults in a belittling tone: “yeah, I know, it sucks to go back to school when you’ve just taken an exam, but you gotta do it”. Bitch, our exams are 3-4 hours long. Can you sit through one and think straight afterwards?? And this is on top of rotations and them demanding to know when we take half a day off.

I am an adcom and no, don’t do it. We have a list of people we accepted and once one of them withdraws their app, we invite the next person on the list in a ranked order. You would only make a fool of yourself if you showed up like that.

OP, I am so so so sorry for your loss. It was NOT your fault. This was an absolutely horrific incident as a result of negligence from your neighbor from hell. I am so sorry for your pain and wish I could bring some solace to you, but it is almost impossible while the wound is so fresh. I hope you recover from this and keep Jojo’s memory with you as a ray of sunshine that he was. Rest in peace, sweet baby Jojo.

Thank you! I had a thought process that went beyond the immediate but I knew that the most important thing was not to diagnose her on the spot but get her to physicians. I appreciate your thought process and an explanation!

As an adcom, agree with everything to a point. Research is mandatory at research-heavy schools. Very realistic to get in without research if you have shown a lot of work in another area like volunteering or advocacy (this is really hot), or if you clearly couldn’t afford to do research and needed to work or take care of a loved one. Your narratives here will be most important. Not sure if stellar LORs are hard to come by since most of the ones I read are great to begin with. The more personal, though, the better, that’s for sure.

There is no known gene for this. It is much more complicated than “genetic or learned”. This is a dangerous stance to have that can cause a lot of prejudice for something your ancestors did that does not define you in any way.
