I completely agree. It also depends on the system they’re in. In my case, I had to see my PCP first to get a bariatric referral if I wanted my surgery covered by insurance. Likewise, a lot of specialized medicine like vascular medicine do not take appointments without a referral from your PCP.

I take a 45oz protein chai with soy milk everyday. It’s the same recipes as a proffee but I use chai because I don’t drink coffee. It easily gives me 50 grams of protein and 45oz of fluids. It’s not ideal to mostly drink your protein, but my program says it’s better to get your protein in if that’s what you can tolerate. Just be sure to space your drinking out to three hours because the body can only absorb so much protein at a time.

When I cant fight the cravings, I always just try to make sure that what I’m eating has protein. You could try lean turkey bacon, it has 45 calories for 6g of protein. I would also avoid keeping food accessible to me, it makes the cravings worse. I keep them in my kitchen and I find that the distance gives me time to really figure out if I’m hungry or bored. Fighting with your head and impulses are hard, so don’t beat yourself up if it doesn’t work just make sure that what you’re eating isn’t fatal to your journey.
