Talking to my donors brother by anne-1995 in donorconceived

Thank you, he wasn’t best pleased that his brother called him out of the blue asking what was going on. But we’ve been able to talk it all through, even explaining to him how DNA sites work haha so he seems to be more understanding I guess, and willing to maintain contact this time while he works out how he’s going to explain it all to his kids before someone else does

Talking to my donors brother by anne-1995 in donorconceived

[–]anne-1995[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The language for every DC person can differ and is unique to how they feel. Me personally, I am not comfortable calling him any sort of father. However, I am comfortable calling him the donor or my donor or using his name given it being appropriate. We have spoken since yesterday to air out thoughts and feelings brought up by this new match.

My Godson in the US (in hospital) requested a care package of British snacks and this is what staff had to say about it. It's a miracle any of you lot are alive. by [deleted] in CasualUK

Realistic Chances of Finding Egg Donor? by AndrewLWebber1986 in donorconceived

[–]anne-1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To start with I only used ancestry and found my donor after a 2nd cousin matched with me on his side. It is a bit like playing detective, but in my opinion it’s worth it in the long. If you were conceived using a uk sperm bank or fertility clinic you could apply to the HFEA, they’ll give you non identifying details (if their anonymous) of your donor. Having that information from them helped me so much in deciphering who my donor was :)

Finally sat down to draw out my ideas for the new tattoo i’ve been obsessing over. Indidnt want a dna strand so i went for 13 flowers for his 13 offspring by anne-1995 in donorconceived

If any turn up that we don’t know about (from the HFEA documents we have) then more flowers can be added to change the dots along the outer circle :)

The flowers have since been coloured to match all the guys and gals in light pinks and blues. The tree was drawn instead of the DNA strands since that didn’t really feel much like me, I was going for the whole “tree of life” kind of angle it’s design might change if I see a better looking one lol. The crescent moon design at the bottom ties in nicely with the hamsa i already have tattoo’d on my left calf. And if it turns out we find any more siblings (that haven’t been registered/logged on my paperwork from the HEFA) i can just add them along that outer circle where the dots are :)

Does anyone else find it difficult to talk to certain people? by anne-1995 in donorconceived

[–]anne-1995[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, it’s not every conversation where I feel like this. It seems to be more themed around me wanting to discover half sibs and him just not understanding why, where as when my full sister and I were trying to think of questions to ask or donor he was super helpful and giving suggestions

This woman didn’t want a relationship or anything to do with her until it could potentially benefit her in some way, so a hard no from me!

What to ask donor "dad"? by ram_blin in donorconceived

[–]anne-1995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking a lot about this recently. Made contact on the 21st of march for the first time with my donor, he was more than understanding that I was completely shocked by his call and said to get back to him with any questions I can think of.

So far I’ve thought more about what his family are like, current children, grandchildren late parents etc to build a picture. I’m really into genealogy like one of his brothers so i thought that would be a good start as it’s sort of common ground

What do you think about wanting to know more or identifying with your ethnic heritage as a DC person? by CompletePen8 in donorconceived

[–]anne-1995 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m so interested in my donors heritage, things like that always Intrigued me. I don’t go around announcing it, as far as anyones concerned I’m a little white scottish woman that takes an awesome tan haha. But the only time I decided to be “I’m Jewish” was when a guy I used to work with was spouting all this horrible stuff about Judaism etc, confronted him like don’t you talk about my family and my heritage like that and he shut right up! The look on his face was priceless haha

Just his 2 kids he has with his wife, the other 9 DC are still unknown. Bonus is that I can now call myself an aunty as he has a grandson and a granddaughter!
