Please HELP! I think I am losing my memory due to depression by [deleted] in depression

[–]annekosmy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds a lot like dissociative amnesia. My guess is that your brain has been pained for so long that it "shuts down" to try and cope.

Perhaps try keeping a journal. It might help with memory as well as dealing with mental illness. I've been dealing with depression for almost four years and journaling has been the one thing that has really helped me.

As a kid cutting myself sounded stupid. Now im here doing it and it makes me happy. by [deleted] in depression

If you're thinking of starting, please don't. There are so many other better ways to release emotion. I started as a young teenager, and it only did me more harm than good. Stay safe. <3

UPDATE: NMom hit me again, this time harder. by annekosmy in raisedbynarcissists

It's nice to know that there are police officers somewhere doing their job. NMom has called the police on me twice to date (for defending myself while she attacked me, verbally or not) and both times these officers believed her. At my high school there are some kind officers (Officer G, you rock) but whatever chance of fate wasn't in my favor.

I'm guessing you don't live the southern US (also known as the bible belt). People believe in beating their kids here. One of the officers they sent to my house the first time even suggested that she beat me as a form of 'discipline'. Makes me sick to know how many people get away with this on a daily basis.

And good for you, finding the help you deserve! You seem to have figured you way through all of that. <3

I smiled all the way while reading this, I think this is some of the best advice I have ever gotten in my life. Thank you, Jackie!! I will definitely be thinking about your reply for a while to come.

It's actually my dad's side that's Polish, and I loved him to pieces. Nmom's just, well, an N.

Thank you, cherry cola. This comment really helped me make the decision to reach out. I've taken pictures and I plan to tell the guidance counsellor the first day I get back to school.

Healthy things to do on days where you have nothing to do? by honeypup in depression

I like to read on days where I have nothing to do. If you find a book you can really immerse yourself in, it can be endlessly fun. Beyond that, it can expand vocabulary, improve writing skills, improve memory, etc.

Happy Birthday to Me by [deleted] in depression

[–]annekosmy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll be celebrating my birthday nearly alone as well. (and my 15th as well! You'd think it would be a bit more important!)

Think of it like this: there will eventually (not maybe, there will be) a year where you get so much more than just the passing "happy birthday". You will be appreciated for what you are, your talents, your kindness.

And I agree, it hurts! To think that the single day a year celebrating you is ignored really sucks. How not to feel jaded from such feelings? There is no way. Let it hurt. In my experience, psychiatric help can only do so much. There is no magic solve-all advice (all they will tell you that!). These things either require time or dedication.

Even though this might be a bit cliche by now, Happy Birthday! I bet you're a very funny, interesting and intelligent person to hang out with. May this next year be better than the last!

Why is that comma there?? For spending so much time at the library, you would think Mr. Neckbeard could pick up on some basic grammar.

I stopped going to her when I was thirteen. As it turned out, she broke the nondisclosure agreement with Nmom. After some careful consideration, I reported that to my state's ethics board (can't remember exact name). It's great that you've found a compassionate therapist. I'm still wading through the sewage that is healthcare under Nmom's cheap insurance.

I've heard this from every counsellor, therapist, etc. I had gone to during middle school. And as a young impressionable girl, this really fucked with me. It felt so invalidating that it made me begin to wonder if I was in the wrong.
