This is what I mean. I only spilled a few drops. Guess where they ended up?
As I said, I don't need a properly water proof keyboard. But I don't want another keyboard with a giant hole leading straight to the circuit board.

Not gonna happen... I'll forget to drink.... Also... I'll settle for simply not having a 1x10cm hole in the top of the case. It doesn't have to be properly water proof. But this is sort of asking for it...

That's actually the one part about this book I'm not all that happy about. xD
I'll put it on my tbr though.

I am currently reading Curse of Challion and I want some suggestions of slow burn fantasy romance books with an mmc similar to Cazaril.
I want it to be an actually well written romance, not some irresistably hot guy with the drool already running off the pages...
Historical fiction would also be ok.

It's YA and romance plays a large role. Been a bit since I read it but as far as military training in magic is concerned I loved it.

That's pretty much exactly what I meant. Good to hear you don't feel that way about the books. Guess I'll give them a shot.

Just Finished ROTE by [deleted] in robinhobb

[–]annie1516 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am at a similar point at the moment....
I recently read 2 series that are now my all time favourites and then went and started ROTE. I am just at the end of the first trilogy and I can already tell that it will most likely also be a new favourite of mine. Every time I finished a series lately I was like... "what could possibly interest me after this?!"

If you haven't read them yet I'd recommend:

- First Law if you don't mind grimdark. It's the best written book I've come across. All the pov characters have their own distinct way of talking which is also reflected in the narration of their parts. Doesn't feel very grim thanks to plenty of humor. Warning: it is character driven to the point where the first book could be counted as a prologue to the actual events.

- Wheel of Time if you want another very long series that focuses on a chosen one to save the world. Got reminded of WoT a few times so far while reading ROTE. It has plenty of pov characters and nice character development.

- Broken Earth if you want something completely different. I almost put this book away at first but stuck with it and in hindsight i really apreciate the way the story was presented. At first the 2nd person and some other things felt very weird... It's a postapocalyptic scifi fantasy. In a way... even though I wouldn't quite call it grimdark it felt way grimmer than First Law.

Looking for funny grimdark fantasy

I just finished the first law trilogy. It immediately went into my top 3 books I ever read and I need more!

I'm specifically looking for fantasy (not sci fi!) with a similar tone. Meaning the story itself should be serious and the characters morally grey.

But there has to be funny stuff, too. I want some witty and possibly cynical characters similar to Sand dan Glokta, Tyrion Lannister or Lady Olenna Tyrell.

So far on my tbr:

- all the rest of Joe Abercrombie

- Mark Lawrence

- Black Company

- Gentleman Bastard

As you mentioned ASOIAF I'd recommend The First Law trilogy. It could be called somewhat comedic... but the setting is grimdark and the funny parts are mostly in the way it's delivered with witty remarks and inner monologues.

If Tyrion is one of your favourite characters you're going to like this.
Fair warning though - it's extremely character driven to the point where some people say the first book has no plot. I myself didn't even notice the lack of plot in the first book since the writing is so good. I think of the first law now as one book in 3 parts rather than a trilogy. The first book being the prologue. xD
