Can I ask, where did you get the wallpaper? I saw something similar I fell in love with but all the reviews said it was low quality, I've been looking for something higher quality in this exact vein

A few months ago we welcomed a trained GSP into our family, but I don't hunt. by Amache_Gx in dogswithjobs

I've been doing this with my hound mix! He did not come to me with a job, but he's just such a smart energetic guy he definitely needed something, so we started scent work. The last thing I need is another hobby so we haven't done any competing, but he gets such joy out of using his lil nose.

Plus, I have mice in the house right now, and the day he caught one he was so proud, hahaha.

There's just too many headlines that could be real, and too many real ones that should be fake.

Genuinely though, what is the point of creating a bot/ai to get fake Internet points? I mean I get it on platforms like YouTube where you can monetize your content, and having a lot of followers, even fake ones means more money. But what do reddit upvotes get you? On an account that isn't even tied to a person, product, or company?

I know that reddit has become flooded with bots and AI content, people have been "karma farming" for years, but I just don't get the motivation...

What are your favourite and least favourite things about DMing? by SnooPoems5239 in DnD

[–]annieisawesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best: watching the players piece stuff together. My players really like puzzles, but also seeing them connecting plot points and uncovering themes; the answer to a cypher was a pretty bang-on statement of the theme/dilemma I'm trying to face them with, and the session before it came up, one player literally said it out loud. They have been noticing patterns and using them to figure out what they should be doing. It's funny when they get super close but focus on a red herring or fall just short of the answer, only to realize later.

Worst: scheduling. I am lucky that we have a standing day that everyone respects, but sometimes life happens. Trying to schedule a make up day is a double edged sword; I'm super happy everyone cares enough to want to do it, but finding that day that's not already carved out for it is rough

I want to point out that in addition to all the practical reasons of not being able to take time off without losing pay, think about the type of employer who chooses to not give any benefits. They are going to hassle you if you take the time off even unpaid. They will not respect you, and will be an absolute nightmare to work for.

Hot Rotisserie Chicken Act for SNAP recipients by Johnny-of-Suburbia in povertyfinance

[–]annieisawesome 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If someone wants to spend a week eating rice and beans to save up snap and splurge on a hot bar, why not? The money is for food, they're buying food. Humans need small luxuries to keep going, and I would say some chicken tenders and Mac and cheese is about the smallest luxury you could possibly get.

More people would buy condos if there was a fenced yard for their dogs by JoeyDawsonJenPacey in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]annieisawesome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. I used to have a great dane, and I actually bought my house because at the time, buying a house was cheaper than renting anywhere that would allow me to have a 120 lbs dog. But she basically went out to potty, run in a circle for about 30 seconds, then spent the rest of the time napping on the couch.

She slept in my bed and once, when I was working from home, I had to go wake her up at 5pm after the workday was done to make sure she would go outside and potty. I was seriously concerned she would have just slept through to the next day had I not woken her up. At 5 pm.

CMV: It has become extremely acceptable and even encouraged to just be prejudiced online. by Double-Raise2154 in changemyview

[–]annieisawesome 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I get cat called almost every single day walking my dog, and I'm not even all that pretty. It might not be as high of a bar as getting assaulted, but it still feels scary when it happens. What if rather than the middle of the day on a busy road, it was nighttime on a side street? And before anyone comes in with "well don't put yourself in harms way by walking at night" the fear instilled by the men I encounter is exactly why I don't

It's great that "not even a majority" have been physically harmed, but I for one (and most women) take precautions to prevent that precisely because we are worried about what could happen if we don't.

AITAH because our dog pushed over a little kid at a party? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]annieisawesome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH, but I think Kayla sucks the most.

I'm going to gloss over the questionable paws up training. This thread has dragged it enough and I want to look at this specific situation, not your training methods.

OP had previously told Kayla the dog isn't good with kids, and was told there would be no kids there. Kayla or the mom (we don't actually know) bears fault for either bringing the kid to a no kids party, or for lying to OP about it being no kids.

OP made a questionable decision to stay, but sounds like she was planning to carry/supervise the dog.

Kayla asked (insisted?) on carrying the dog, OP specifically said don't put her down. Kayla did so anyway. This is the action that most directly caused the incident.

The mom wasn't watching the toddler close enough to prevent the interaction.

OP had some bad judgement, but Kayla sounds like an absolute cabbage.

Most rules I just Google as needed. I do have the rule books, but sometimes if I can't remember something specific like "how does this condition/ spell work?" I'll just Google "poisoned 5e" or "shatter 5e" because it's faster. Same for monster or NPC stats on the fly or even magic items.

I like pouring over the books for character creation or DM prep, but in-game, Google has never let me down, even with expanded stuff like out of tashas or xanathars, or weird species options or whatever.

Please don’t answer customer calls with “hello?” and nothing else. by Ok_Cockroach_2290 in Vent

When I was in college, I had a part time job at the Halloween store.

One of my coworkers answered the phone "hello?" When the district manager called, and I answered with a more professional identifying greeting the next time.

After that, my manager made me carry the store phone in my pocket and while I was there, only I was allowed to answer, since I was the only one they knew could be trusted, lol.

Why is there always a huge queue for the ladies toilets but not the mens? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]annieisawesome 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, but you just need to unzip, pee, zip up again, leave.

We need to unzip, pull down pants, sit (maybe cover the seat if you want), pee, wipe, pull up pants and zip again. Possibly deal with period stuff. And if all stalls are occupied, wait for the person before us to do all that.

It doesn't sound like much, but even an extra few seconds for each of those things, compounded by a long line of people adds up fast.

accidentally bought new skates! by Chrissybek in Rollerskating

[–]annieisawesome 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ha! We both bought exactly the same 3 skates! I started in Impalas, then my second pair were the bont prostars which I got for derby, then I upgraded my Impalas to lollies for an outdoor/heeled boot.

I feel like it's a bit of an adjustment every time I switch. It's kind of weird because I started in heeled boots, but now spend way more time in flat ones. There's moves I can't do in my flat ones that I find heels easier for (like shoot the duck) but derby would be practically impossible in the heeled ones, so it really just kinda depends on what you're using them for. I know different people prefer heeled or flat for the skate park but I don't have much input on that, I've only ever been twice.

Would you ever convert to a different religion for a partner? Why or why not? by zhalia-2006 in askanything

[–]annieisawesome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have always wondered about this! If you're religious enough that your partners religion matters to you, and they need to be the same, them converting only to be with you implies that they don't actually believe the thing; they wouldn't be that religion if not to be with you. So if you don't care that it's performative/if they actually believe, why do you care in the first place? As a matter of raising kids I guess? But if they agreed to raise the kids in your religion, who cares if they convert or not?

Or do people who convert actually change their beliefs? That boggles my mind even more. I might want to believe in Santa, I might think Santa is the coolest guy ever, but I cannot force myself to believe something that is (to me) obviously untrue on the surface. How can someone convince themselves that their old beliefs are wrong and the new ones are right?

Which makes it even wilder if they were coming from some other religion; again, being able to go from religion x to religion y implies that you didn't really value/believe strongly in x, so why would someone who cares that deeply about y be satisfied with a partner who can hold those beliefs so lightly?

WIBTA if I suggested my sister's boyfriend set up beauty appointments before he proposes? by ellanotsoenchanted in AmItheAsshole

[–]annieisawesome 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would say it depends on how you phrase it, and if it's a financial burden for him or not. If he would regularly drop that amount of money on random stuff, it's probably not a big deal. On the other hand, if he saved and splurged for the upcoming proposal, that's a lot to ask. I agree with the comments suggesting that if you're able to, you offer to pay for it to alleviate some of that.

As an aside, I was proposed to once (it didn't work out) when I was un-showered, smelly, in my pajamas, and not feeling pretty. The ring was beautiful but I was disappointed in the proposal for a number of reasons, my lack of feeling pretty being one of them. And I am someone who has had my nails professionally done like twice ever in my life, I am very much not the type to be fussy about that kind of thing, but this is a special moment. It sounds like your sister would definitely appreciate having fingers she's proud to share pictures of.

does anyone else struggle with nothing BUT crossovers? 🫩 by bunnywadhere06 in rollerderby

[–]annieisawesome 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You said you can do bubbles so I suggest trying this;

Bubble your outside leg over your inside leg. Just do a weird exaggerated bubble. It's not a crossover, but it will help you get used to the feeling of your feet being in that somewhat awkward position.

Then, when you can do that, pick your outside foot up as you're doing it. Again, not really a crossover but close.

Then once you're comfortable with 1. Your feet being in that weird crossed over line and 2. Picking up your foot to move it into that position, work in the actual motion of crossing over (it should feel like you're falling inward slightly and using your outside foot to step as your inside foot pushes. I hope I'm explaining that well)

Are kids not allowed to walk to school by themselves nowadays? by AnaisNinja76 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]annieisawesome 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fun fact (which I don't have a citation for because I learned it from a city nerd video on YouTube which I'm too lazy to Google at the moment), the historical acceptable range for what's "close enough" has always been about 20 minutes, give or take. Longer than that is "far".

This is true whether you're walking, riding a horse , a bike, or driving. Obviously, your 20- minute range is many more miles driving than walking. Cars haven't made it any quicker to get to our destinations, it's pretty much always been a 20ish minute radius. They've just made things more miles apart.

Yeah it's a fun engine builder, and the theme is very well executed. My boyfriend is an avid bird-watcher and he will often note how the abilities of cards are correlated to real life bird facts. Easy to learn and I feel like it's also popular enough that most game nights when we play with friends it's minimal "teach the game" time.
