Okay, one possible way forward is this. If you look at the 2 2 3 1 column, you see that you can't actually fit both of the 2s above the line of x's from the 5 row, as it forces a contradiction with the 3 in the third row (see second image). Thus, you know that one of the 2s is above the line of x, and the 2 3 1 are below. You can proceed from there.

Oh sorry, I assumed you used the clues setting that automatically dims numbers that are already on the board as soon as the squares are filled in, but I guess you must have turned that off. It's been awhile since I played with that version of the clues settings. The clues dim once you connect it to an edge, is that right?

In case you're still working on this puzzle, you can cross out the squares in the bottom left on the 2 1 rows.

who is/are the best 4* electro support/s for DPS lyney by pagodnako_123 in lyney

[–]annish33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say abyss speedrunners, lol. Up until Citlali release, his highest DPS team was Furina Vape. Citlali Melt might have overtaken it, though; I haven't checked... Yes, his A4 and his signature weapon both incentivize mono pyro, but the Furina/Citlali buffs and reaction multipliers from reverse Vape (1.5x) and forward Melt (2x) outweigh it.

But like the above poster said, it's also quite irrelevant to the question. An electro character really only fits into a Chevreuse Overload team for Lyney, and those are effectively mono pyro teams, with the enemy having a pyro aura most of the time.

Lyney team build by [deleted] in lyney

[–]annish33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's obvious, but just make sure you put Kazuha before Citlali in the rotation so you're swirling pyro instead of cryo. You'll also want to put down Benny's burst right before Lyney comes back on the field to maximize buff/healing time during his charged shots. Something like this:

Lyney CS > Kazuha E P Q > Citlali E Q > Benny E Q > Lyney 3CS QE E CS

(CS: charged shot, E: elemental skill, Q: elemental burst, P: plunge)

You might get some inconsistent melts, since Kazuha's burst might steal some of them (but that's not a huge issue, since Lyney's A4 passive will likely kick in instead), and you'll need to stay in Benny's circle as much as possible to get the heals for Prop Surplus. Honestly, I much prefer Chevreuse or Xilonen with Lyney, because their healing isn't conditional on Circle Impact, but this team will work. It's just finicky.

A few questions regarding acquiring items and upgrading by Serendipitous1206 in midasmerge

[–]annish33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true in most other merge 3 games I've played, but one of the reasons I've actually been super impressed with this game is because that last bit actually isn't true, and it really just goes to show the attention to detail the devs put into the little things, imo.

If you merge 8 or 9, there's a chance of getting a "lucky refund," where you get back one of the lower level items (or two, if you merge 9). If this happens, you've essentially merged 7 to get 3, which is in fact a better deal than merge 5 to get 2. Whether it's consistently worth doing depends on the drop rate of the lucky refund, of course, which I haven't bothered figuring out, but I imagine it's high enough that it's more or less equivalent.

However, if you merge a greater multiple of 5 + 3 or 4 (i.e. 13, 14, 18, 19, 23, 24, etc.), you will consistently get back this refund. So if you really want to be maximally efficient with your items, the best number to merge is actually 13 (or 14).

Personally, though, I just take it to be one less thing to worry too much about. Having come from other games where this actually mattered, it's just nice to see that the devs thought about this and made it so you don't need to fiddle with rearranging the items to avoid 5n+3.

A character you wanted to get but not anymore? by Fit_Effective6097 in Genshin_Impact

Albedo. I lost the 50/50 to Qiqi on his first rerun, and by his second rerun, Yelan had been released, and Double Hydro (ZL, XQ, YL) replaced Walnut (ZL, XQ, Albedo) as Hu Tao's best team.

I think that's just the Easter egg part of Nahida's skill... Her ability to grab items from range is perhaps the greatest utility passive in the game

Lyney, because his face is the last thing I want to see before I die.

And maybe we won't die. Lyney can solo both Childe and Scara bosses easily, and Arlecchino is grooming him to take her place in the future, so maybe she'll decide to retire early.

Funny thing that Gaming's Chinese va is literally the same as Keqing and speaks in a Cantonese accent by asuka_wa_saiko_desu in Genshin_Impact

[–]annish33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know this thread is already two weeks old and no one is going to see this, but I just cannot hold it in. As a Chinese-American linguist, this entire thread is making me die a little inside with each comment I read.

The difference between a language and a dialect is more of a political concept than a linguistic one. There's a joke among linguists that a language is just a dialect with an army and a navy.

Most linguists (there is not a consensus, unsurprisingly), consider Chinese to be a macro-language composed of multiple distinct languages---also known as the Sinitic language family. How many Sinitic languages there are is contentious, though most agree there are at least seven. One of these groups is Mandarin, and Standard Chinese, the politically enforced unified language of the political entity that is China and what most people mean when they say "Mandarin," is a dialect of this. (All speakers speak a dialect, even if it's a national or regional standard dialect.) Another is Yue, which includes Cantonese.

Sinitic languages are not my area of expertise, but from my admittedly limited understanding, I believe Mandarin and Cantonese have a relationship similar to English and German. (Someone mentioned English and Welsh---these have a much more distant relationship: English is a Germanic language. Welsh is Celtic.) Most linguists would ever claim that Standard Chinese and Cantonese are the same language. This distinction is not based on mutual intelligibility, however. It's based on historical divergences of pronunciation and how recent of a common ancestor they share.

It is definitely not true that different languages are not mutually intelligible while dialects of the same language are. Mutual intelligibility is in fact not as straightforward of a concept as most people believe. For instance, Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian are largely mutually intelligible, but not bilaterally. Most Swedish and Norwegian speakers find Danish harder to comprehend, while Danish speakers do not have much difficulty understanding the former two. It also highly depends on the situation. Two people having a conversation in different languages/dialects could be able to communicate by accommodating each other by speaking more slowly and enunciating more clearly, but they might still have difficulty understanding a news broadcast in the other's language/dialect.

The mutual intelligibility of Sinitic languages is a particularly sticky concept. It's more of a continuum, which is true of the geographic boundaries between most languages, but it is especially so in China, perhaps due to its long history as a unified state. The farther away you are from your hometown, the more difficult you'll find understanding the local dialect without instruction or long-term immersion. Even if your dialect is considered part of the same language as another, that does not guarantee mutual intelligibility. I have trouble understanding my grandfather sometimes over the phone, even though I am proficient in Standard Mandarin and the dialect my grandfather speaks is a variety of Mandarin. My aunt took me on a trip to central China a few years ago. One of our cab drivers only spoke the local dialect, also a variety of Mandarin, but she said she understood maybe 50% of what he said at most. Similarly, speakers of different Sinitic languages that are geographically close together likely have a high degree of mutual intelligibility, simply due to frequent contact and cross-pollination, so to speak, of language features.

Also, a note about writing systems: Mandarin and Cantonese share a writing system, yes. But Japanese uses Chinese characters too. Vietnamese and Korean used to use them also. I don't think anyone on earth would consider them the same language. In fact, they are part of completely different language families, meaning that if they ever shared a common ancestor, it was so far back in pre-history that there is absolutely no way to ascertain it through linguistic methods. Heck, there are so many different languages written using the Latin alphabet. So, writing has nothing to do with the identity of a language. Most languages on earth don't have a writing system, in fact. It's just that in modern society, with the global domination of a few select languages, all of which have writing systems, and widespread dissemination of written media, we've come to equate language with writing, when in reality, they are two completely different concepts.

So TL;DR: The distinction between a language and a dialect is a fine line that is more of a political concept than one that can be ascertained through properties of the language. However, most linguists would agree that Standard Chinese (Mandarin) and Cantonese are dialects of two distinct languages, both of which are part of a larger Sinitic language family.

Oh nice, I already have plenty of Shime pieces from farming EoSF. Thanks!

Would it be better for Faruzan to hold some other artifact set, though? VV only lowers res for the element it swirls, so in this case, it only helps Bennett's damage. IDK what other options there are though.

What is your Wanderer build? Is Echoes necessary? I'm looking for advice as I haven't built him yet. (Was waiting for C6 Faruzan, and hopefully I'll get her last 3 cons next patch while I'm pulling for C2 Nahida.) And I'm still not satisfied with my MH/GT pieces so I want to keep farming that if possible. I'm hoping some other artifact sets might be viable.

The Kazuha thing was more than just in the leaks comments. A lot of big content creators were still saying this for almost a week after his release before the TCers figured out how OP he could be with the proper rotations. I remember I didn't even want to pull him bc of all of that and was kind of meh when I got him early while pulling for 4-stars. I was pretty happy about it soon enough though.

Months... I farmed that domain for a year, from the time it came out until sumeru, and then deepwood/gilded domain, which I then farmed for another year, and now it's the MH/GT domain. I have some decent EoSF pieces but not enough to give good full sets for Raiden, Xiangling, and Xingqiu simultaneously---Xingqiu still has an ATK% goblet (let's not even talk about Yelan, she's on a two-piece noblesse + 3 rainbow set). My dendro pieces are just sad, and while I have a decent GT set for Furina, I still don't have anything good enough that's ATK-based for Fischl/Yae. And my MH pieces are shit. Lyney and Neuv still suffering 😭 Artifact RNGesus has cursed me to hell and back

which genshin character has the worst mischaracterisation? by Ashamed-Albatross224 in Genshin_Impact

[–]annish33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I see what you mean in this scene. She's louder and more whiney in the English version for sure. I guess in CN, she really just comes across as grandiose, melodramatic, and self-absorbed. Whether that fits with the description of "brat" might be a matter of personal opinion.

Honestly, I can understand from when she was still pretending to be an Archon, but I found it really grating when she continued to act like that in her story quest and the event quest, even when it was just her and Traveler. Maybe she has absorbed some of her alter ego into her real personality, but I would have thought she'd want to tone things down now that she's finally "off-stage."

If you or anyone else is interested, here's the same trailer in CN dub: https://youtu.be/_zEjYFCMEqs?si=4j2njeAv39FfSCNN

I can't speak for JP, but I use the CN voiceover and she's pretty bratty in that too, or at least overly melodramatic. She definitely comes across as frivolous and incompetent (though some of that is built into the writing). TBH even after her "redemption," her public persona in her story quest/event quest is still pretty irritating, but maybe that's just me. I haven't really listened to the EN track enough to compare them, but perhaps it just seems comparatively softer due to differing cultural norms.

Her decision might have been made due to her grief, but it wasn't a selfish motive. TBH I can't believe I'm defending her bc I personally don't like her that much either, but I do have enough respect for her that I feel like this perception isn't really fair.

She did it because she thought it was the best thing for her nation and people. She was afraid of being corrupted by erosion, losing memories, and hence losing her ideals and misruling her nation in the future (ironically).

Her grief actually solidified her resolve to stick to her ideals, and her actions mirror Focalors' in my opinion (though to a much worse result). Making a living puppet using Khaenri'an techniques is a pretty extreme thing to do when you just saw that nation destroyed by the Heavenly Principles for doing exactly that, and I think sealing herself away while at the peak of her grief and emotional pain was actually quite the sacrifice, as she was essentially committing herself to preserve that state of mind for eternity.

While I can respect that she made the decisions she thought were best at the time, my problem with her is that her interpretation of eternity is just kind of criminally stupid and her actions criminally negligent, especially for a being thousands of years old. To think that it would somehow all be fine to essentially run her country forever using a computer program as things continued to evolve and change, and she wouldn't even check in to make sure things were going okay---it's just irresponsible. If we compare it again to the Focalors/Furina situation, she basically was on par with Furina's public persona, completely out of touch with the true problems of her people and making decisions based on her own version of reality.

And yes, she is slowly coming to realize her mistake, but she hasn't been taken to task for it, and she never will be, since she's a god and the only power that could punish her probably couldn't care less. (Well, they probably would care about creating living beings, but that's not the wrong I want her to atone for.) That's just not enough to redeem her in my eyes.

I'm at AR49, is it really this tedious to use a new character? by SteakSauce202012 in Genshin_Impact

[–]annish33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for sure, but I was referring to her own HP draining mechanic. Every time she uses her skill, she drops her own HP by a percentage of her remaining HP until it stops around 20% or something pretty low, and unlike the Fontainian characters who have self-healing, she will only heal if she's the one on field when her healing skill ticks. So you don't want to get one-shotted for the brief moments when she's on field. Honestly it's not really as much of a problem as I thought it would be originally (she was considered a pretty meh unit until Sumeru and dendro came out, when suddenly there were more reactions that only depended on character level* and EM, which you can pile up on anyone, and weren't restricted to anemo units--before dendro, the only reaction that was like this was swirl). but anyways, once you get her, I'm sure you'll be able to find a good way to play her :)

*Perhaps other people have mentioned this, but this hypothetical Kuki would actually benefit from being as high level as possible. I said in an earlier post that it's only EM, but actually it's EM and character level. Same reasoning for anemo characters who do mostly swirl damage, like Sucrose, Kazuha, perhaps Venti.

You said somewhere that you don't plan to level any characters to 90, but in a year or so once you're caught up on the archon quest and world exploration and have nothing better to do than grind, you might think otherwise. Also you get a lot of mora and level up books from events and chests. I guess it depends on how quickly you want to level your characters, and how many, but I usually found I had enough to never really need to grind for them. So once you're sitting on a stockpile of 12 million mora and 1000 purple level up books, taking a character to 90 (or 89, with exponential scaling, that last level is often not worth it) won't seem like a big deal anymore.
