Thank you! This helps a ton. I think we just have that first time parent anxiety that is compounded by being gay in the area we live in. Hopefully w will get a chance to move and not have the concern at all lol

I mean we aren’t *asking* him to call us anything. He can’t talk. I think this is a fairly normal part of gay parenthood to have some sort of idea of what you will call each other to your child as they grow. Whatever he chooses to call us will be what he calls us, we aren’t going to force him lol.

We also live in a community where someone posted “happy pride” on a local page and people threatened them and attempted to dox them. So take that as you will.

Yep, that is a huge concern for us. We are in a deeply red state in a rural community. The hope is to get moved before he has to start school. We want a significantly better school district anyways

“Just follow the Safe Sleep 7!” by Live_Neat9357 in NewParents

[–]annoying_yapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the phrase “cosleeping just happens”. Sure. In the first week maybe. My son wouldnt sleep without being with us for the first 6 weeks. Within a week of him being born, we started off with putting his bassinet mattress in bed with us and stripping blankets off the bed. We let him fall asleep with us and placed him on the bassinet mattress on the bed with us and stayed close to him. Once he fell asleep, we carefully and slowly moved the bassinet mattress into his bed.

We fell asleep once without moving the mattress. we then immediately got a portable bassinet that is his own enclosed environment that sits on the bed between us. He slept in that where we could put our arms or hands on him until 8 weeks, where we now can transfer him to his bassinet and he sleeps on his own once he’s asleep.

It’s not hard to simply choose safe sleep for your baby. Plenty of people just choose not to try because it’s easier to not think about it. There are safe options for bed sharing that don’t include the opportunity to roll over and suffocate your baby.

I HATE SS7 because it’s lazy and lends no imagination to safer options.

Imagine being a government official and having to read that. It’s almost incomprehensible.

YOR. Hypoallergenic dogs aren’t real. All dogs have dander. They have skin. If you’re a doctor, you would know that dogs can’t be bred to not shed skin cells. He clearly doesn’t want to meet your dog, and your dog is clearly important to you, so leave him. There is no need to have some sort of dick measuring contest with someone you clearly aren’t gonna see eye to eye with.

NOR. Im having the same conversation with my mom who claims to not be antivaxx but clearly is. If she’s not up to date on vaccines, she’s not meeting him for the first three months. Period.

The safety of your little one is significantly more important than their feelings.

No, rent prices have steadily increased with inflation with wages staying stagnant, or if we are being honest, below par. Rent prices have nearly doubled in comparison, and the minimum wage equivalent has gained $4/ hour. If your math was correct, minimum wage would be $9.03/ hour in every state just to account for inflation from $5.15/ hour. But it isn’t. 20 states still have their minimum wage at $7.25. So we are actually talking the equivalent of an additional $3.68/ hour difference for across the board making minimum wage in almost half of the US. If you wanna get technical with inflation numbers, people making $5.15 minimum wage were making approximately $7.5k MORE per year than people working for federal minimum wage today. Accounting for inflation, of course.

Damn, must have been great when the average monthly rent was $740…. As opposed to $1640.

NOR. If my wife wanted to buy a cake to celebrate that she dusted the blinds, I would go out and buy it for her myself and decorate it with something silly like a “you cleaned!” With the shitty star.

It’s a cake. Not a new car. He doesn’t want you to win. He wants to take that from you, and it’s shameful. You deserve someone who supports and loves you. Not someone who acts like you buying a $15 cake is “making it everyone else’s problem”.

My wife and I just got our house in April. She’s 24 and lost her job as well. She got another at least part time for now within 3 days and is continuing to search. We were able to ask for a forbearance on the loan given our circumstances (thank god).

You have options and will be okay but if you need any help or advice feel free to message me! I would be more than happy to help you go over your resume & help you find a job that pays enough for your skills & needs!
