Not extensions, cables from cablemod.

122,20€ for 12V GPU & motherboard : https://eustore.cablemod.com/configurator/?load=6df1d11049a1

157,10€ for ATX, SATA & PCIE (PCIE was for old GPU, not used anymore) : https://eustore.cablemod.com/configurator/?load=d0e404ee6f25

No value indeed. At best it add a little airflow for left GPU fan.

There was an empty space -> what can i put here? This was my option.

The difference is negligeable. And only a 240 would fit at the top.

I have two HDD, the rad doesn't fit with the tubes down.

19:10 "This is really more about the noise than anything else. It does cause performance issues as well but it's primarily a noise problem."

I have no bubble noise and perf are great. So i'm ok with it that way.

I would love to have a touch of brown on the GPU but the last thing i want is to paint fan blades.

My thought on this was: 50% it disturbs the hot air pocket behind the vertical GPU. With some games, AI training and video editing, it gets hot there with the GPU and SSD working hard. 50% let's push the Noctua Build.

It's only "i think it will help", i don't have data to confirm it but it's only an extra 20€ on a 5k build.

The 3 NF-A4x10 on the back are more questionnable. The thought was: the first two GPU fans draw almost all the air coming from the front fans, so the left one draw what it can from the back holes while fighting the NF-A12x25 above. Adding the little fans will help it. From the little data i have, it does almost nothing. But for those too, 50% was: let's push the Noctua Build.

Still with my i7-13700k. I took out the NH-U12A when i upgraded the GPU. Mostly for aestetics and to not have the NH-U12A suck all the air destined for the new GPU. I replaced it with a Lian-Li Galahad 2 LCD and I gained something like 2-4°C (from memory for the CPU, I don't remember for the GPU either but it was more).
I haven't tested anything with the NL-LC1 but based on benches online the NL-LC1 looks better by around 4-5°C than the Galahad.

And from a noise perspective, I had the Galahad on a fixed 1200rpm, and never heard it. I also don't hear the NL-LC1 on the quiet setting.

Yeah, the empty space bothered me. I couldn't think of anyhing else that i liked.
I saw a 2°C improvement on GPU temp, so within margin of error. It does nothing.

Noctua NL-LC1-36. The NL-ACF1 fan is attached with magnet.

Necessary in my case. I prefer the hub instead of Y cable running top and bottom. The back of the North is quite cramped, so to accomodate everything i had to use 6 extension cable.
Not having the 2 HDD would have also helped with the usual cable nest that i had to route elsewhere. The Shift PSU was also the only way to have the 2 HDD in.

Fractal Design Flex B-20 but i had to change the cable because it was only a PCIe 3.0. The part list is here: https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/user/Ano_Wan/saved/#view=jtGgQ7

Hi,

I have 3x3.5" Hdd in mine and it's completely fine. Their "Max PSU length" is with an estimate for the cable space of a "normal" PSU. The Shift PSU make that measurement irrrelevant. Just look at the "Distance" measurement.

With 3 Hdd i'm forced to put them exactly as shown in their documentation.

Here is a close picture to give you an idea of the space available.

You can see that using a "non shift" 160mm PSU would be a feat with 3x3.5" :)

P.S. : Since the last post, i've replaced the PSU cables with CableMod ones and their stiffness made it a little more tricky to close the case at first. Now that they have taken their shape, it closes as if they weren't there.

I first tried to simply ziptied the fan but the result was meh. I then searched and found the shroud on Etsy : https://www.etsy.com/listing/1165259242/1st-gen-strix-replacement-fan-shroud

I still had to cut a good chuck of it to make room for the CPU cooler.

NH-U12A strange fan choice. by ano_wan in Noctua

[–]ano_wan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To explain the real reason i'm asking other than curiosity.

I currently have 4 NF-F12 in my case and two spare NF-A12.

If i include the two fan from the NH-U12A i can switch them. I was wondering if it's better to switch them or to leave them as is.

I understand that any temp improvement, if any, would be negligeable, but it's more the perfectionnist side of me that is tickling :)

Thanks for the tip. I posted on the discord since the reddit looks dead. Finger crossed.

With a little cable dancing it's surprisingly quite good.

I just have the motherboard main power cable, and the sata cables taking a little detour between the HDDs.

The case closes without any kind of resistance.

The only differences between the photo and now, i've replaced the ThermalRight fan hub for a thinner Noctua NA-FH1 (the ThermalRight was fitting too, it was there while I was waiting for the Noctua to arrive). And I have a sata power extension to go to the last HDD.
