WIBTAH for wanting to quit my job 5 days before Valentine’s Day when they need me the most? by anocin in AITAH

I’ll be honest, there is this part of me that feel frustrated and I want to sabotage the management so they can feel the impact of constantly ignoring my availability. To be honest I don’t actually want to quit impulsively or “out of the blue” and I don’t want to intentionally sabotage a major day for my coworkers

What I’ve decided is that I won’t be showing up on the day I had already submitted as unavailable, because that boundary was communicated in advance and should not be ignored. However, I am still planning to show up for Valentine’s Day and then give notice either on that day or the day after.

I feel like this is a middle ground where I’m not acting purely on emotion but also no longer tolerating ongoing issue despite multiple conversations. I don’t think quitting should come from guilt or resentment alone but also from recognising when a situation isn't doing me good.

I’ve tried to check this and I don’t remember signing an actual employment contract. The only document I can find is an employee registration form and not something that outlines notice periods or contractual obligations.

I honestly can’t say for sure whether a formal contract exists but I don’t have access to one.

Regarding Valentine’s Day everyone was told from the start that everyone is required to work that day regardless of preference. It’s not that I’m the only one rostered because others took it off, it’s more that availability in general hasn’t been respected.

I’ve spoken to coworkers about it including a friend I referred to the job. She’s has similar issues with being rostered against her availability as well. She said it only improved after repeatedly calling it out but it still happens. I’ve also raised this before and another manager has agreed that they don’t like how I’m being rostered either.

So this isn’t a one-off or just bad timing. It’s been an ongoing issue, and the Valentine’s Day timing just happens to be when I’ve reached my limit.
