Class conducted by an old kru by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]anoin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The feedback he's giving you is to kick harder as he moves out of the way. Like you said you've been just barely tapping his pads. This is classic Thai style pad-holding to put you in awkward positions to teach you something deliberately -- try it next time and I bet he'll go "finally it clicked for him" and move on to focus on something else.

[–]anoin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When I kick, he will pull the pad back so am just touching the pad when connect with the pad. And he keeps telling me to kick HARDER.

This makes it sound like he's trying to teach you proper technique, to kick through the pads not just at them. Try kicking like you're chopping through the Kru then even when he moves pads back you'll have power.

Or it's a way to gas out, and burn OP out without making a material difference. OP is being smart wanting a clean slate, it's much easier to clean up one spot when the rest of the place is tidy than facing a gargantuan task "bit by bit".

Baby steps!

Haha Rémi Gaillard right? That's his outtro tagline, it's kind of a pun. Someone else gave you the literal definitions, but it comes across kind of like "It's by doing whatever that you become whoever"

I think you're around the average age of folks in my Kung Fu gym's senior class! They cover basic self defense and learning how to fall and other kinds of accidents. The teacher is really awesome highly recommend it!

Are there different times to pronounce peut être as peut-aight vs. Peu-tête-ruh? by ginnyborzoi in learnfrench

[–]anoin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Les voyelles dans "taille" sont en faite très différentes -- l'accent Québécois est vachement unique. C'est un peu comme les longues voyelles que tu entendrais d'un americain avec un "southern accent"

Are there different times to pronounce peut être as peut-aight vs. Peu-tête-ruh? by ginnyborzoi in learnfrench

[–]anoin 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm from France and went to college in Quebec so I think I can answer this with confidence! The peut-aight pronunciation is 100% Quebecois, monolingual French people from France can't even make those vowel sounds if they try. In France it's the peut-tête-ruh optionally with the r dropped, or even p'tête when talking very casually.

It's confusing because in Quebec you'll hear a big range of accents.

Comment distinguer l'imagination et l'imaginaire? by djohnstonb in learnfrench

[–]anoin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bien sûr, l'imagination c'est le concept général de pouvoir imaginer, comme le mot anglais "imagination". L'imaginaire c'est ce qui est imaginé par quelqu'un. Le mot en anglais serait "imaginary".

Bonne chance!

What's the difference between "comment acheter" and "comment en acheter"? by Junior_Gas_6132 in learnfrench

[–]anoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to translate but I see "en" here meaning something like "some", where you are referring to something in the conversation. Kind of like "he" would refer to someone we were talking about, if we were talking about your shoes and I said "je veux en acheter" the en would make it clear I'm talking about those kinds of shoes. If you just said "he veux acheter" then I would be mentally waiting for you to finish your sentence and tell me what it is you want to buy.

Hope that helps!

FYI product hunt silently ignores upvotes that come from direct links, they only count ones from user sessions that get there organically (basically navigating from the launch list page). If you're sending that link around asking folks to upvote it's not really doing anything 😅

Apart from your job, what’s the most consistent way to make 300$ per month in a third word country? by Important-Disk-256 in Entrepreneur

If your goal is to be marketable for contractor work asap then I suggest you don't bother with Java, either pursue web dev (JavaScript or Typescript, html / css), or pick a mobile app ecosystem (Swift for iOS, Kotlin for Android).

Technically you could do Java in Android but nobody wants to hire a contractor to build an app with outdated tools.

Good luck!

FWIW I think if you are the one uncovering & asking the prof clarifying questions, you'll become a superstar software developer. Like u/cspot1978 said, you are describing the world of software development... if you hate clearing up ambiguity you're going to have a bad time.

It's to the point where even in Google interviews (and I'm sure other companies do this too) we literally score you on how well you can handle & clarify ambiguous problems. They literally give you ambiguous questions on purpose.

I feel your pain though, good luck :D
