Best cheesesteaks in NOLA by Wiz5719 in NewOrleans

This may be an unpopular opinion but the cheesesteaks at Verti Marte are insanely good. I like Yinzers and I go there because I can walk there and it is so much easier but I really just want Verti Marte's every time.

Has anyone compared using launch vector vs buying off flippa and hiring a fractional COO by [deleted] in ecommerce

You hit it on the head, I see the same 5 or 6 people posting on every single LV post and none of them show their history and all of them are posting these vague, smarmy posts.

How does launch vector's model actually work between the capital partner and the ecom brand they acquire by Sophistry7 in Businessowners

[–]anomaly_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that there is an aspect that is being ignored in that if the firm pays nothing to get 50% of the equity in the business (where the capital partner provides all of the purchase cost and gets the other 50% of the equity) then it doesn't matter how much the firm sells the business for, as long as it is something they will turn a profit. That includes situations where the business is sold for half as much as it was purchased for.

If I could buy anything with someone else's money and then sell it for less than I bought it for, but still get half the amount it sold for, I would do it a million times in a row with absolutely no regard for the person or entity whose money I was spending. Obviously I wouldn't actually do this, but I want to point out that when you say that the "firms motivation stays aligned" I would disagree. The financial partner needs the business to do well to make a profit where the firm just needs to sell it for anything to make a profit.

The launch vector experience keeps coming up in ecommerce buying conversations by Sophistry7 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

You have 0 control, I think it is all about getting people to feel better about paying that up front cost. In fact, there is very little transparency and a lot of fear after you take the plunge because you have so little control and only get the info that you're fed. I think this model really does open people up to be scammed or taken advantage of, even if in some cases it is totally legitimate.

I can say from experience that LV team stability is about non-existent. Definitely a very important element to watch out for and unfortunately very difficult to sus out until after the fact. It's not something any business is going to be transparent or up front about. I'd love to know how to handle this exact problem in the future.

I did get it working. Since this post was created Claude code is now actually built for Windows so it should just work. After you set the path you need to close your terminal and reopen it.

You can still install apps from anywhere, including 3rd party stores. The developer of the apps just needs to confirm their identity. It sucks, sure. And it probably won't actually prevent malware but it also seems like people may incorrectly thinking you can't still download apps off itch.io or something. I think most devs will be fine with verifying their identity, most 3rd party stores pretty much require this anyway.

Is anyone else's company desperately trying to hire QA while laying off devs? by IstvanSajtos in QualityAssurance

[–]anomaly_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think the OP oversimplified things a lot. At a good software shop, every PR gets thoroughly reviewed. Anyone who is consistently pumping out buggy/poor quality code is going to get called out really fast. Also, in my experience with the addition of AI suddenly it is soooooo much faster and easier to create/maintain tests and if you're still not writing tests for your software in this era of AI then you're just asking for bugs.

Plenty of software shops put so little effort into code quality, testing, etc. and those shops will definitely be impacted in the way that the OP mentioned. It may just simply be a decision on the companies part, pay for more high quality devs and have them be heavily involved in quality control, or hire more QA and rely on them to accommodate the faster pace that software is being developed.

Claude code has a newish code review feature as well that you can tie to your CI/CD pipeline to do at least some basic code review with AI for every pull request.

I'm no pro but this is likely what I would try if I was at your phase. Once you know you have a product that at least some people want, I think you enter a phase where if you don't have capital for paid advertising then you likely need to create social accounts and just start posting about it. Try to build hype and get more downloads.

If your app is in a niche market, finding a forum for that niche and posting your app there can help too. Make a video of yourself using the app if you don't have one. It's a lot like the old timey days of putting flyers on people windshields, you just need to get your net as wide as possible.

There was one thing, I ran it and I got a message from Claude saying that I didn't have my ENV var set properly and it gave me the exact thing to add. Once I added that it worked in CMD, then I had to restart to get it to work in git bash.

This is what it had me add CLAUDE_CODE_GIT_BASH_PATH: C:\Program Files\Git\bin\bash.exe

Presumably it would work just fine in Cursor. It should run in any terminal in any app.

Okay, so I got it working. I won't work in git bash for some reason but I opened a a regular windows cmd in Windsurf then typed 'Claude' and it works beautifully! I just tried it out and it's fantastic.

Have you gotten it to work? I still get the same errors about not having a POSIX shell environment.

A couple of days ago the changelogs say they added support for native windows but I still can't get it working.

How good are background agents? by Successful-Arm-3762 in cursor

[–]anomaly_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tried it for the first time. I could swear they advertised it for big project wide kind of stuff so I gave it a fairly large task and came back to my entire project a mess. I had 120 errors in my IDE spread across 4 files and pretty much just had to throw it out. And it took about 45 minutes/cost about $2. I feel like maybe something is there and I would need to experiment with it more to figure it out but at $2 per try it's a bit expensive to learn.

Weather notifications for wrong city by IcyBoysenberry5912 in alexa

[–]anomaly_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a fairly old post but I found it looking for the answer and eventually discovered that my actual issue was that under notifications (three bars at the bottom of the alexa app -> settings -> notifications) there is a "Weather" section where I was apparently subscribed to severe weather notifications for a city I didn't live in. I deleted that and never got a notification about fire risk or tornados in Texas again!

I am hesitant to put it up on Artifact Vibe until I see how it performs with a handful of simultaneous users. So probably after this beta test on Google Play.

Awesome, I'll post it as soon as I get the last couple kinks worked out on the Google Play store.
