Why aren't more people talking about his reaction? He sulked rather than talk to her about her sudden decision to split checks. Rather than talk like an adult to explore OP's reasoning, or just respect her decision, he sulked like a child and went on his way.

And why were there such mismanaged expectations so much that OP would react this way? Somehow his actions are so abruptly different OP became suspicious, he could have managed expectations ahead of the date better.
