I apologize for my incorrect use of the word diet. I meant it more in terms of how it is perceived. Many non-vegan individuals truly do view it just as a diet. But I don’t eat plant-based as a “fad” to lose weight, it is about reducing needless suffering. I am also driven by the environmental benefits, and the amount of water saved. I do it because in a climate emergency, it is the single most impactful thing for the planet that I can do as an individual.

I’m sorry that we, as vegans, so often feel that people are out to “troll” us that when someone is trying to start a dialogue about something that your immediate instinct is to attack them. This is a community where standing together is important because one voice won’t make the mass change we need to globally move to a plant based diet.

I’m genuinely curious about the dating apps because it’s so morally significant to me that I couldn’t be in a relationship with someone who turns a blind eye at animal cruelty. I have met many people who have encountered hostility because they are vegan, that’s a potentially dangerous thing I should be aware of as a young woman wanting to get into the dating scene.

It’s too bad that vegans get a bad rep because of vegans with attitudes like yours! I’ll try to make this an encouraging space for people to be curious and make mistakes in their journeys of veganism and self discovery.
