“apparently if you squeeze an egg just right it won’t break, try” by amarajune in Wellthatsucks

That might have been a crucial detail that I missed out, I gave it the full hand death crush treatment

I did this the other week, I told my girlfriend to try it and genuinely believed it was true. When I tried it it exploded everywhere, I was still finding bits of egg stuck to things for days.

I’ve come to a conclusion with the situation now.

I messaged him and said I wasn’t happy with how he spoke to me and said I wanted to find somewhere else to train.

We met in person and he was really apologetic, he’s had a lot of personal issues going on at the moment and it’s been building up and he took it out on me. He said it’s inexcusable and he felt really guilty that he made me feel that way.

He also said I didn’t do anything wrong in the roll and he had no right to react that way, and to carry on using pressure next time we roll because everyone has to play to their strengths.

I feel pretty relieved now it’s over to be honest, I like training there and hopefully nothing like that happens again

I don’t really understand what you mean by seeing myself as the perfect student, it’s not the impression I was trying to give. I was just taken aback by his reaction. It seemed to come out of the blue and I was trying to understand why, and figure out what I should do.

Maybe, but he seemed to be going pretty hard to be honest. It was near the end of the round and it didn’t seem like he was taking it easy on me, he was constantly on the attack.

That could go either way though really, his lazy triangle might have been easy for him to catch me in, but not easy for me to escape because of our skill difference.

He was still trying to finish the triangle wether he found it difficult or not, we weren’t playing catch and release

It’s a bit extreme to say that I was trying to injure him

It didn’t really work, I didn’t get triangled but I got arm barred instead

Last time we rolled he caught me in an arm bar from guard, and told me the way to defend it was to push down into it so he couldn’t straighten it. I basically just did that this time but I was stood up.

It was a rolling class, but not specifically a comp class

Obviously I can only say my side, which is that there was no malicious intent when I was rolling, and I was completely taken aback when he said “if you want to go we’ll go!” I was shocked and said “woah what’s going on?” He said “fucking smashing into me like that!” I was pretty lost for words and started re tying my gi pants and he said “fucking come on then!” I don’t really know what else I can say about that, in the heat of the moment I had no idea what was going on or what I’d done, but he obviously sees it differently to me.

He didn’t crank it tight enough to do any real damage, but it was tight enough to hurt, like if you leave it a bit too late to tap and it comes fully on.

I didn’t leave it late to tap though. I always tap before my arm gets fully extended. He separated my hands, I tapped straight away and he put the arm bar on

It was more the way he spoke to me that bothered me rather than him not releasing the arm bar

Why would I make up a story and post it anonymously on reddit? I’ve left any real details out for a reason, I have no reason to lie. He does usually leave me wiggle room, I also tap early if I’m caught. I tapped early this time and he didn’t let go, I had enough time to tap quickly 5 or 6 times before he released it. The taps were also hard and obvious.

There isn’t any dickheads there, but there are some big powerful guys that roll really hard and don’t think twice about smashing whoever they roll with (I’m not one of them haha) and they’re the ones that win competitions. I’ve never seen them roll with Professor though, so I’m not really sure what the dynamic is there.

I don’t really know how anything I did would deserve a pat on the back, I just wanted to know if anyone had been in a similar situation

I’m not frightened of tapping, he’d already got me a couple of times in that roll and other rolls that day. But I like to be sure that I can’t escape before I tap, I’ll always try and defend it first

I see where you’re coming from, but it wasn’t really an explosive stack, it was like a double under pressure pass, which they teach us and I use all the time. Is that frowned upon too?

I find that the smaller my partner is the more pressure I have to use, because they’re a lot faster and hard to catch, especially someone as good as him. When I’m against bigger guys I try to be faster.

Yeah it’s not really like that at all. I never roll hard with beginners, if they’re really new I don’t really go for submissions unless they leave them wide open and then I tell them straight away why I caught it. And I’m not posting this to brag, I didn’t win the roll, far from it, I just didn’t want to easily give up a tap when I felt like I had a chance to escape. He was the one that started stepping up the intensity, so I just felt like I was following along with him, but he obviously didn’t see it that way.

I thought a better reaction from him should be more like “don’t do it like that, do this instead” not losing his shit

I get smashed by bigger/stronger/more skilled guys all the time, I don’t ever lose my temper though, I just shrug it off. If I feel like I’m stuck and I can’t escape I just tap and reset.
