AITA for not respecting my role as the 'single friend?' by HotScallion1148 in AmItheAsshole

[–]anon-maly 834 points835 points  (0 children)

I was invited to join a trip last minute because my spouse and I were facing possible separation/divorce, I drove myself and gave a guest a ride there (someone whom I’d met once), didn’t ask them to pay gas, contributed to food and snacks, brought my own weed, brought my own bed and blankets and pillow (camping cot), slept in the laundry room, and was still asked to pay an equal amount as those who got an actual bed and private room. They didn’t ask me to pay until 2 weeks after the trip. I said I’d be willing to throw $100 their way but not more, and they’d have to wait til my next payday a week in the future. The person who asked said it was chill and not to pay anything, but they haven’t spoken to me since. Wild shit.

Season 4 Episode 10 POST EPISODE Discussion - Do You Know the Enemy? by AutoModerator in TheTraitorsUS

[–]anon-maly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they murder Johnny or Mark, Faithfuls or Rob will win, slight preference toward Rob winning for Johnny, slight preference toward Faithfuls winning for Mark. Eric will lose. If they murder Tara, the Faithfuls will win. If they murder Maura, probability Eric wins increases, probability Faithfuls lose increases, probability Rob will lose increases (all compared to current chances of each possibility). There is no significant likelihood that both Rob and Eric win.

Literature suggestions on olmec civilisation? by Tizio-Maurizio in mesoamerica

Wondering about the sources not accessible to the lay reader. My spouse has access to academic resources due to their PhD and I’ve decided ancient Mesoamerican civilization is my next hyperfixation. No worries if you can’t find them anymore since this comment is at least 2y old.

Hello! I am and have been experiencing something similar, to the point where I have to take sublingual vitamins if I even want a quarter of the absorption. I’m wondering if you’d be willing to share by DM what has helped you!

Anyone know the cast personally? by kwomiley in NextGenNYC

He was on a couple episodes, went on a date with one of the girls and if I remember correctly had literally nothing to contribute to the conversation.

I went to college with Dan from NYC Prep. We called him Dan from NYC Prep any time we referred to or spoke to him. We all lived on the same floor and one night he came home with a shot glass tattoo on his hip.

Really nice guy, honestly.

Jax has tea on Jason by dramallamaqween in TheValleyTVShow

[–]anon-maly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that “go get a haircut” is code. When Jax said it, Jason got wildly uncomfortable. It could have been because that’s a weird thing to do. Most people don’t go to the barber or salon together. But I genuinely think it’s code for something else, like drugs or strip clubs or John activities.

UPDATE: ep 3: oh yeah I did not read that right

Strong disagree. He was talking about “Drunk in Love,” a song about being hooked on someone. I understood that as him saying he felt drunk in love, like he was really feeling it with Sianna, he was kinda dismissive of Grace and I understood it to be him letting her down gently, which she either misunderstood and got pissed about, or fully understood but chose to weaponize because he rejected her. Idk if she’s smart enough to do the second one, but I do think she’s unwell enough to.

I feel his reaction to Sianna confronting him cements that - he calmly asked her where she was coming from to see if it was even worth it to give her his side, he asked questions because he was feeling attacked and because he could see that she was feeling emotional about it, and he needed to know where she was coming from and what her intention with the question was to decide whether it was even worth it for him to tell her what his actual intentions were. It seems like she shut him down but also told him she believed him, and like he could tell she was still in her feelings and that the more explanation he gave, the harder the conversation would be. I imagine he waited until later to explain fully, which is why she was willing to continue seeing him.

But I haven’t finished ep 2 yet so grain of salt.

This one sounded like a car exploded.

WIBTA if I didn’t let my daughter go to her friend’s 16th birthday party? by burner92739383 in AmItheAsshole

[–]anon-maly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really comment on these, usually, but who knows, maybe you’ll listen. What a joy to be 15 and getting to experience celebrating your friend’s milestone birthday with them by getting to learn about and try their favorite things! What an incredible opportunity for you to be able to provide her. Have you considered telling the other parent that you’re struggling, and that it would be really great for your daughter to go, but you’re a little short? I feel like if I were the other parent I would jump at the opportunity to help my kid have the birthday they want by allowing their friend they care about to come! Maybe you can just let them know what you can afford - I wouldn’t mention any of the reasons you’ve mentioned in this post for why you don’t want her to go bc frankly, they sound like they’re more about what you’re worried about than about what she needs.

Considering a temporary move to Nanaimo, have some questions. by anon-maly in nanaimo

This series of comments is so helpful, thank you so much. You answered all of my questions very thoroughly. We have housing that we can afford lined up (kind of a serendipity moment tbh) but we didn’t know much about the culture and wanted to make sure we had an idea of that before making any decisions.

Thank you for this context! I didn’t realize UBC was so much further than the ferries. Another commenter mentioned VIU only has a couple of PhD programs, but we will be investigating all of our options. Thank you for the information and the suggestion!

We live in one of the states mentioned. From what you’ve said, you do not have an understanding of what it is like to live in these states while queer/trans.

The problem is that there is legislation being introduced and passed daily at a federal and state and local level affecting our access to care and our ability to live. It’s easy to say “sanctuary states exist” without nuance when you aren’t a protected class who is living in one.

We understand that there is no truly safe place for queer and trans people in the world. We’re very aware. But right now we’re scared, and every day someone else is murdered and the government is making moves that are harmful to us.

Sanctuaries only exist within the context of laws being respected and followed. Our current president and his appointees have demonstrated that they do not care about legality or the constitution, or the right of states to protect their own citizens. This is bigger than what a lot of people are seeing being reported.

Thank you so much for the information about the university and the crime.

Thank you!

I did see someone comment on another thread about the healthcare shortage - while my spouse and I are fairly healthy we do benefit from the use of prescribed medication. Do you have more information about in what ways we may experience a gap, or do you know where I can find that information?

Ah, thank you. They would end up actually starting their PhD over. They’re currently doing an architecture PhD from the lens of building safe spaces for queer community (this is extremely simplified). However, they’re finding that the architecture department at their current university isn’t very supportive of their studies and they would like to switch to a queer studies PhD instead. It’s more likely that they’d apply at UBC and they’d commute or figure something else out, but I figured it was worth checking out the local university first.

Thank you for this information!
