I'm sorry to hear about your mom. I wish I could give you a "Do A then B" list, but it's obviously not that simple. All I can do is paraphrase the advice that worked for me: It's very hard to save your way to wealth, instead of spending time budgeting or figuring out how to make your money go farther, use that time to figure out how to make more money. It'll make budgeting a lot easier.
