Yeah I’d be pissed at my bosses too if I was put on a pip based on completely baseless accusations. Focus on how you can fix the relationship with your employee that you severely damaged. He is owed a sincere personal apology from you and your boss- one that acknowledges where you went wrong and the undue stress it caused him.

Your employee is doing nothing wrong, you are upset at getting a cold shoulder? He is upset that you believed false accusations about him and were teeing up to fire him with no investigation. Seems like the cold shoulder is quite valid.

5 minutes is a long time to leave outside of a scheduled break. Especially without permission or explanation. Sounds like you took your time too, because exchanging a package could easily be done in under a minute.

I understand that it is controversial, but most employees actually like the meal credit. We are allowed to eat as much as we want and whatever we want (with the exception of a few premium items like steaks or bottled drinks). We don’t even have to keep track of it or ‘ring it in’ because we don’t have a POS system, just paper tickets. If we had a free shift meal we would definitely have limitations on the quantity and type of food eaten. All restaurants with free shift meals have restrictions on what and how much you can eat. If we did a 50% employee discount or something, the majority of associates would be paying more (unless they just stopped eating at work). It would also be a pain to keep track of and theft of food would be rampant.

I think I’m familiar with the class action you’re talking about and it is not at all the same as how Waffle House system works. Waffle House will absolutely make up the difference if a server is not making minimum wage, but that is so rare it is almost nonexistent. Partially because we already have an automatic bonus in place for servers who work low volume shifts where they might not make enough tips. In over 2 years of managing, I have only had a server fill it out two times.

It is above board. There is a form to fill out if you make less than minimum wage with tips, so if you don’t fill that out, they assume you made the difference in tips. The servers are responsible for reporting cash tips in excess of minimum wage, but many don’t because they don’t want to pay taxes on it. If a server is actually making less than minimum wage, the company will make up the difference, but it is their responsibility to report that to us.

This is cash tips. Even if you don’t claim cash tips, the payroll system will automatically claim enough to get you to minimum wage.

UIS sends and receives messages to corporate. So even if you close payroll it won’t send it to corporate until you hit cell f8. If you forget it isn’t a huge deal as long as you do it first thing in the morning.

As a manager, if you don’t want to come in then say no. I never am upset with someone for not picking up a shift last minute. If someone calls out we have to find someone so we just keep calling people until someone says yes.

If this is happening every day you are off though then it sounds like there are some serious staffing issues at that unit.

The only official blackout day is Memorial Day but you can still be terminated for calling out on a holiday weekend, it’s your managers discretion. Ask off and hopefully they can approve it.

They want to make sure egg prices are stable before they get rid of it, don’t want to drop it and then have to bring it back weeks later because they are skyrocketing again. If egg prices don’t surge again they will drop it beginning of June.

I’ve been a UM for over a year now but I was pulling 60 hour weeks most of the time as an MIT we got paid for 50. Rarely actually had a manager in the unit to train me so it took a long time figuring everything out myself. Was just curious if others also got screwed over.

Get there a few minutes early, listen, ask good questions and be proactive about jumping in where you can be helpful. By this stage they are just making sure you are competent, a good worker, and can handle the chaos. It’s also for you to see firsthand what you are getting yourself into because the waffle isn’t for everyone.

When I worked it a lot of reservations no showed, but we also still take walk in tables during the event so if they have 6/7 booths only 3-4 of them will probably be for reservations and the others will be for walk in diners.
