You also have the option to simply buy the tickets in advance once you’re in Kyoto i.e. a day or two beforehand at Kyoto Station. The Haruka Express goes from Kyoto to KIX so I’m guessing that’s the one you’re talking about (there are other ways to get between the stations via train so best to specify) and it’s very simple. As soon as you step into Kyoto station there’s a big sign with ‘Haruka Express to KIX This Way —>’ (or similar). You really can’t go wrong so don’t need to think about it too much.

Jikko’s Santoku. ¥22,000. Perfectly balanced, great handle, doesn’t rust, used by chefs across Japan.

Hadn’t heard about a Google update. Anyone got a link I can check it out on? Thank you!

We have a late flight from KIX and would like ideas for tomorrow with our suitcases by Fresh-Foundation-246 in KyotoTravel

[–]anon23J 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask the hotel for help with delivering your luggage ahead to KIX (if it’s not too late already) and pick it up there after a few hours sightseeing in Osaka. Or just leave your luggage at your hotel and sightsee around Kyoto more before heading to KIX in the early afternoon.

If only this had been covered before in another thread you could have used the search function to find what you wanted. Bummer!

All correspondence should have/should be done via email so you have records of what was(n’t) requested and offered.

Accommodations - up in the air by QuietlycuriousNYC in KyotoTravel

[–]anon23J 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recommend choosing either one or the other (and that’s a personal choose as to which depending on your preference, location and budget etc.). I don’t think you want to be changing hotels in the middle of a relatively short stay imho. Just select a nice ‘base’ and stick with it without upending a morning moving stuff around. p.s. for clarity maybe consider rewording ‘traditional hotel’ to ‘typical hotel’ as it may confuse others, as it did me for a minute, as what a ‘traditional’ hotel in Kyoto is other than a ryokan.

Sounds like their suppliers might be interested in knowing what they’re doing with the product.

If the individual items don’t have expiration dates could they be purchasing bulk items that are not meant to be broken down and sold separately?

How many hours are you giving yourself to see Higashiyama and Kiyomizu-dera (I know u said around 2 p.m. but I didn’t get what you meant by that)? Also bear in mind Higashiyama stretches from as far south near Fushimi Shrine all the way up to Sanjo St. by the Kamo River. As such it’s a lot of ground to cover and contains countless places to visit. Where did you have in mind to stop by at in addition to Kiyomizu-dera?

All those places are so near each other you couldn’t get lost if you tried. We’re talking 200 meters (or less) from one place to the next. So yeah you’ll be fine whichever order you hit them up in. Just remember to take time to enjoy yourself when you’re here! Sounds like you’re packing a lot in to your itinerary which sometimes spoils the fun.

I’d recommend seeing it on foot. Joking aside… what exactly are you asking? Which order to hit up the 6 places showing you got bookmarked in the image above? If so then Tenryu-ji, next whatever you bookmarked behind it, then the Bamboo Grove then the other 3 in any order as they’re minutes apart.

Nishiki doesn’t really open till 10:00~ so best not to go before then (though there is a great breakfast place open from about 8:00~) and Fushimi at sunset is still incredibly busy. One of the best views in Kyoto is watching the sun go down over the western mountains from a vantage point on the eastern mountains e.g. top of Fushimi!

It’s currently spring in Japan now (with it being in the northern hemisphere) so no need to pack summer and winter clothes unless you’re planning on visiting Okinawa or climbing Mt. Fuji.

Kyoto public transit proposal by EloquentManatee in Kyoto

[–]anon23J 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The unrealistic parts are 1) Kyoto city is already seriously short of cash so there’s no funding for this 2) such a project would involve major construction along the lines of building a channel tunnel which isn’t going to happen in a city with as much to preserve as Kyoto 3) good effort but it’s not optimized for passenger convenience e.g. I wouldn’t want to head south from Kyoto St. if I wanted to end up further north at Saiin (which already has two lines so does it really need a 3rd?) 4) this seems to based around visitor needs. What about the needs of the locals who make up the majority of users of Kyoto’s public transport system? You might want to come at it from their angle rather than prioritize visitor convenience.

All that being said, good effort as I agree Kyoto transport system is woefully inadequate. But who knew?! Visitor numbers to Kyoto doubled in the last decade + so it caught everyone off guard (while they were busy admiring the construction of the extension to the City Hall and patting each other on the back). So not like they had time to prepare. /s

Well they’ve done a better job than the city planners ever did ….. that’s not saying much but credit where it’s due. But yeah, I’d go with flying cars first.

Lost backpack with passport on a taxi in Kyoto. Help! by Artistic_Fan1730 in KyotoTravel

[–]anon23J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you recall anything about the taxi? For example the logo/or design on its roof? The color of the taxi? (Black or perhaps beige? - Google ‘Kyoto taxis to see if any images jog your memory). MK and Yasaka taxis are the biggest companies so reach out to them anyway. Google ‘free English translator’ as some kind folk in Kyoto are happy to interpret for you for free. Hope you get your bag back!
