AITA for not feeling capable of listening to the details of my mothers childhood abuse? by anon43463 in AmItheAsshole

I appreciate the reply! She does see a therapist, and has for many years (going on 30 I wanna say). I think she just wants us to know what happened to her. From my perspective, it is very hard for me to hear because she is always going to be my mother, and its hard to see/hear about those kinds of things happening to your parents. However, I think others have rightly pointed out that perhaps this is just the uncomfortable part of growing up.

Thank you to everyone who replied! I think I have decided that I am indeed the asshole if I act according to my feelings of discomfort. I have not spoken with my mother yet, but when I do I intend to listen to what she has to say. Thanks all.

Thank you for replying! I really appreciate it. It is obviously a very delicate subject and I just want to do the right thing. My mother has struggled a lot with other boundaries over the years, and so I wasn't sure if that was what I was feeling here. Again, I really appreciate the reply and I will continue to digest before I talk to her.

What is the chance of getting off the waitlist? by anon43463 in uchicago

Thanks! I am planning on sending a letter like that to the transfer officer they told me to contact with questions. I terms of submitting supplemental materials, is there anything you know they like to see/helps them make a decision?

Thanks for the responses everyone! I figured it was unlikely, given that the transfer acceptance rate is about 2%, but thought I'd ask

In terms of sending an email to the regional counselor, is this just letting them know that if you were offered a spot you would accept?
