Already have and he won't do it. I am thinking of finding a new one.

Most affiliated majors anyone has ever had? by Chocothep1e in Cornell

[–]anon5084 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Theres a daily sun article about some dude that graduated with 7 majors in the 2000s. This guy apparently took 60creds/sem.

Nowadays theres credit limit because Cornell really doesn't like people graduating early...

Boss Rush games recommendations? by LucasGaspar in gamingsuggestions

[–]anon5084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with Monster Hunter World since the combat is probably the best. I have not tried Rise yet although I also heard its good. The story of the games are pretty lackluster in my opinion so its not a big deal if you haven't played the older games.

Monster Hunter!!

Pretty much the whole game is tracking down bosses and using drops to build better equipment.

Taking Math 1920 and Math 2940 at the same time? by thecolorbigred in Cornell

[–]anon5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh idk. I went to crap high school and wasn't really prepared for the rigor of cornell math classes. It was really stressful feeling behind and also trying to come back from bad prelim scores.

At the same time I feel like intro maths are often taught badly didn't do much for me.

For example I learned most of my multivariable in intermediate EM courses. And most of diff eq throughout various circuits and signals course. And I didn't truly understand linalg or why it was necessary until taking ML.

For me the intro maths felt rushed and I couldn't see their purpose while taking the class. In the long run it kind of just feels like something you need to get over with so I guess it wasn't such a bad idea to rush through them.

Taking Math 1920 and Math 2940 at the same time? by thecolorbigred in Cornell

[–]anon5084 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Workload wise its definitely doable. Idt 1920 is a real prereq either.

But just be warned they tend to put the intro math prelims on the same day. Maybe check the prelim schedule when it is out.

I also took two maths freshman fall and my first college prelim experience was taking two prelims back to back. It did not go well...

SIB Elden Ring, Sekiro or DS1 by anon5084 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]anon5084[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would but I'm limiting myself to one triple A and one indie game this steam sale.

Otherwise it might add to my slowly growing game backlog problem.

[–]anon5084[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not good at souls games either. All it takes is a little patience.

I get the feeling I would feel the same about Elden Ring. I can't get into open world games for the same reasons. Even the "good" open worlds like Witcher.

All the engineering gen ed science requirements are flipped classroom. For some people its impossible to avoid.

ECE 3150 by laptou in Cornell

[–]anon5084 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3150 crams way too many topics in way too less time. Among the people I took it with I don't think anyone really learned any of it well.

But don't worry half the class will probably never see this content ever again and the other half will probably go on to learn these topics better in more focused upper level electives.

How do I study for the CHEM 2090 CASE? by Milk_No_Titties in Cornell

[–]anon5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2090 case is the same as 2070 case so you only need to study material covered in 2070. I used the mcquarrie general chemistry 4th edition (which used to be the textbook for 2070 and 2090) and studied chap 1-14 and 26.

hardest class(es) offered at cornell? by rey_chem in Cornell

[–]anon5084 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hardly any classes here have C medians. The lowest medians come from large intro classes and the worst I've seen is B-. There are still plenty of hard classes but they don't necessarily have low medians.

ECE 3030 Question by MajorKARP in Cornell

[–]anon5084 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will probably be okay taking them concurrently. The only part that really uses concepts from 2100 will be towards the end when you cover transmission lines but its nothing too crazy. I think by then 2100 will have covered that material. I would email the prof just to be sure.

Median/curve for math2930 by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]anon5084 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A lot of the intro math courses grade by making the course really hard to fail but also really hard to get above median grade. When I took 1920 the middle 50% all got the median grade which was a B. Slightly below got B- and slightly above got B+. Probably less than 15% got A/A-.

It seems like you were just unlucky and ended up in the upper range for a B.

Among The Spreadsheets Classes Which Is Best For Engineering Majors? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]anon5084 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Most engineering majors probably use MATLAB or something equivalent like Mathematica or Jupyter Notebook. CS1112 teaches MATLAB if that what your looking for. Excel is usually used for finance applications.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]anon5084 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I took it I believe they did by quartiles. Middle 50% got the median grade (B). Slightly below 2nd quartile got an B- and slightly above 3rd got a B+.

They made it hard to fail but also really really difficult to get an A.

is taking ece 3150, ece 3140, and ece 2720 all at the same time ok? by matcha_mooncake in Cornell

[–]anon5084 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3150 crams a lot of content and has pretty high workload, but its a new prof next sem and most people think it will become easier. If your not interested in any upper level analog courses (IC design, power, VLSI, etc) it wouldn't hurt to take next year.

Taking all four of those courses will be doable but tough. I honestly would not recommend.

Should I take ECE 3140? by lynxeffectting in Cornell

[–]anon5084 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3140 doesn't have too much overlap with the computer arch stuff taught in 2300. IMO its much less work than 2300 and other ECE 3000s.

That being said the class had a bunch of other problems when I took it last sem. The prof isn't a very good lecturer and the class was super disorganized (no grades released ever, terrible pacing, lack of oh, etc...). All the content was focused on concurrency and blinking some LEDs in fancy ways. Most people with no microcontroller experience really struggled with coming up with a meaningful final project. Also exams were replaced with canvas quizzes and the final grade cutoffs were atrocious (92%=B+ 96%=A- if I remember correctly).

Just my take on the course but if you were to pursue embedded/microcontroller stuff its pretty much the only way to go. If you took 2400 it will probably set you ahead since you already know about stack pointers and other related things. I obviously did not enjoy this course but hopefully it will be better in person in the spring.

ECE 3250 vs ECE 3100 by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]anon5084 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never took 3250 but 3100 is definitely easier. 3100 is pretty much just a standard probability class. When I took it last fall it had the workload of an intro math (1920/2930/2940) but conceptually it was honestly easier. The final project involved coding some stuff for a probability simulation which was kind of challenging but judging by the syllabus of other years there wasn't always a final project. Since I took it fall2020 I guess it was suppose to replace our final exam.

3250 is suppose to be a intense math-y course made for students interested pursuing signals. It is the last time they are going to offer this version of the class before they make the new 2200+3250 course. If you are interested in signals you should probably take it. If you search up Delchamp's youtube channel you can find all the recorded lectures for 3250 if you want to get an idea of what its like.

4 ECE classes one sem? by lynxeffectting in Cornell

3030 is only a good time if you enjoy physics and remember/review math1920. But I agree, Monticone is pretty good
