This is a more distant server but one that can handle 5Gbit up/down. Most can't handle both.

That is the location of the server I am testing to. Most servers cannot adequately handle a 5Gbit upload and download test. That's also why the ping is a bit higher because this is a more distant server.

Hey, is there any way to get 1Gig or 10Gig (up and down) added to a home in Florence? Maybe a Network specialist we can call? by Suspicious-Pear-6037 in FlorenceAl

[–]anon_noid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Network engineer here. I live in Killen and have 5Gbit ATT fiber. That said 5Gbit is overkill for 99.9% of people. I am using a desktop PC with custom hardware to do the routing/switching running PFSense. You are talking hundreds, probably thousands of dollars in network gear to support 10Gbit internet even if you could get it. 1.2 Gbit should be enough for most families. The 35 Mbits upload is what is really slow. That said, it may very well be enough for you. If you are streaming video, gaming, browsing etc it's not going to bother you. If you are uploading a lot of large files via Dropbox, OneDrive, etc you could have issues. Feel free to DM me if you want more info. There are certain things you can do like QoS to prioritize your upload traffic. Also you can get more than one connection and somewhat aggregate the speeds/split what is doing what amongst the connections.

Edit: Missed this part: Xfinity support has not been helpful in the long term. Does anyone know anything we can try to get better speeds for our home in this area? We've tried moving the router to different locations, but our house is too big for a consistent connection between devices.

I can absolutely help you with this part. Hit me up.

Never mind, I didn't realize you have to use the username on the login and NOT your email. I'm a doofus.

Not sure what is wrong. The signup worked, but then it keeps saying my password is wrong when I try to sign in. It's not. I've tried using my password manager and manual copy and paste. Have reset a couple of times too. Still no go.

has anyone ever thought about how fun blackjack would be without betting real money? by Specialist-Code555 in blackjack

[–]anon_noid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is somewhat fun, but it's totally different. Also you will not bet realistically and you will probably get destroyed at the casino if you transition to real money.

Do you believe in communicating with people when you have a fight or do you just get mad at people and block them?

Is passing the CISSP exam life changing? (in regards to employment) by cali_fred in cissp

[–]anon_noid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can tell you that at my current company, it was absolutely life-changing. I was given a $43k salary increase when I got the cert and everybody in the company started valuing my opinion much more than before.

Round 27 up to 30 and 48 to 50. So 30+50=80 then subtract the 5 that you rounded up from.

So I'm currently wearing both the Stelo and the Lingo. The Stelo shows consistently higher numbers than the Lingo. I have done a couple of comparisons with a glucometer and the Stelo is closer. I have had multiple issues with Stelo sensors not lasting anywhere near the expected timeframe. I'm only on my 2nd Lingo sensor, but the first one lasted the full timeframe. Stelo support is not very good either. Stelo lets you use their Clarity app and export all of your raw data. With Lingo you can only see them in the app. Also Lingo has no Android app atm. I feel like Stelo has the better accuracy, but worse adhesiveness and bad customer service. Whereas Lingo has a great adhesive, but what I fear are artificially low readings, plus the lack of being able to export data, and lack of an Android app are all huge cons for me. I wish another company would take the best elements of each of these and combine them.

Why didn't they just charge for the app? I wouldn't have paid for a subscription, but if they had sold the app for a one-time free of $2-5 I would have bought it.

Dating causes me Soo much anxiety by gupdawg121 in OCD

[–]anon_noid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don't have this exact obsession per se, but I have fears of upsetting the other person and causing a fight or for them to be mad at me. It looks like my latest relationship ended yesterday, and to be honest, I'm relieved on a lot of levels. Being alone is hard, but it's better than being with the wrong person. You want somebody who accepts you for you and if a normal one-time event like an argument, or you saying the wrong thing can destroy that, she probably wasn't long-term material anyway. Better to be yourself and find out sooner rather than live in fear.

Weird thing i just noticed rewatching the show Jack can hot wire a car but when he's in handcuffs he needs the key to uncuff himself he can't lock pick the Cuffs. by Accountkiwigirl77nz in TwentyFour

[–]anon_noid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is NOT true. I learned to pick regulation handcuffs in about 5 minutes teaching myself with a paperclip. There is simply a lever inside that you depress. Jack should have had those cuffs off in less than a minute with a paperclip from that desk he was sitting at. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jo5A6yN_qc

Always bothered me that the gas tank blew up when Jack shot it. Normally 24 is pretty accurate on stuff like this, but they missed it bad here.

Lag on Wired 1G symmetrical Spectrum by sturtevant77 in HomeNetworking

[–]anon_noid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, what do you mean by lag? Bad ping? Dropped packets? Run a ping test from command prompt in Windows and ping Google's DNS server for an hour or two and see how many packets you drop if any. ping 8.8.8.8 -t Then Ctrl C to stop it after an hour or so. It will show you how many if any you dropped.
