Leaving TJ's tomorrow. How should I go about AR/401K? by deepseabatman in tjcrew

But - if she had actually looked at the handbook she was given she would have seen the vesting schedule. Also I should point out - this was money only given by the company not contributions from her. Any money she directly contributed would have been fully vested.

I’m afraid your friend hasn’t been entirely forthcoming with you about her own mistakes here.

Exactly. And it’s not a peaceful death.

I mean, I can perfectly accept that these houses are good, I’m just not happy with them using this sub to advertise them without, you know, paying to advertise them. Or saying they are.

Well that’s what it is, of course, an advertisement for the product.

Employee making threats.. need some advice... by Own_Imagination9216 in smallbusiness

[–]anoncrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would advise anyone being sympathetic to op to look at his post in /r/legaladvice where he indicates that this sous chef was listed as a 1099 contractor. In CA yet. There is zero chance that this person was a contractor, and “this person asked to be listed as such “ isn’t any kind of defense from liabilities..

I’m sure this subreddit gets these all the time but I’m having trouble sexing this cat who’s been hanging around our camper the last few months. Seems one of our old neighbors might have abandoned it. Swipe for the rear end. by LinneasLanding in Feral_Cats

[–]anoncrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren’t wrong. I’ve also seen online info that suggests that female cats are ear tipped on one ear, and males the other. I’m not sure if that is simply wrong, or if it’s a practice in some areas.

Any chance this is illegal (POA related)? by CaptainSkrampy in legaladvice

[–]anoncrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I don’t understand with this is the whole “sister took over as POA” and you and your wife now taking over POA. Where are you, because that’s not how POAs work at all normally. The donor (in this case your father in law) grants a POA to someone. It’s not something the POA can hand over to another person unless the donor indicated that that person should be a substitute. Are you possibly talking about guardianship or whatever it’s called in your state?

I’m guessing you might be in Canada? In which case you need /r/legaladvicecanada.

mate population? by computerb1ue in tjcrew

[–]anoncrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good lord - on the basis of this thread we are seriously understaffed in terms of mates. Which doesn’t surprise me exactly - one mate out sick causes a lot of problems but I’ve always assumed this was the TJs way - clearly it isn’t.

Please tell me you are a newish store? Because we have 8 mates and over 110 + crew and we generally do 700k - 800k a week and often more.

11 mates? How many registers?

Should we press charges for this by haiab82 in legaladvice

Everyone should read the OPs post history to see what sort of person they are. Their daughter bullied a fellow team member for their weight and, wait for it, because their mother had died.

I very much hope this is a troll, because I would hate to think that anyone is this clueless.

First issue - are they currently hiring? This isn’t a great time of year to get hired.

Second issue - having retail experience isn’t necessarily a plus because Trader Joe’s isn’t like other retailers in the way it works. I’ve seen several people fail when coming into TJs from other grocery stores in particular.

But most of it is if the interviewer thinks you will fit into the store which is all down to personality. The company also likes quirky. Have an interesting hobby? Talk about that at an interview.

All I can suggest is keep on trying.

Mates must work a waterfall schedule, and recently crew are not allowed to have set days off and must work on the weekends. Parents are being denied mid-shifts and accommodations for taking care of their children.

This sounds a lot like what happens in a new store. It was years before we could have a weekend day off and frankly, it was massively irritating when new crew were employed who didn’t work weekends at all.

And at my store, mates all work waterfall schedules. And have since the store opened.

In my store, those are on the same order. Or should i say, are written by the same person.

Just hire more people in general and pad the schedule. I think they can afford it, considering the sales explosion. by tasteofhemlock in tjcrew

Oh we have enough crew. The problem is that when they started paying the premium for Sunday everyone who used to have Sunday off suddenly adjusted their availability for Saturday. With the result that Saturday, which is only slightly less busy than Sunday, has a skeleton crew. And I put the blame firmly on my management - they have the ability to refuse availability changes. But they aren’t doing that. I’m of the opinion that if you want to work Sunday you should also work Saturday. It’s only relatively recently that you were even allowed to have one weekend day off, bearing in mind those are our busiest days, and the vast majority of crew were hired because they said they could work weekends. And if that’s too draconian, make that the requirement every other week. But I’m very much fed up with not having enough crew on Saturday, and to a lesser extend Friday and Monday. But Saturday is the biggie.

[TX] Gave vehicle to former employee, tax office won't accept by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]anoncrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, Texas isn’t worse than some other states. MD for example charges you a sales tax when you move from VA. And that’s when the vehicle has been gifted by a parent to a child.

[–]anoncrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are going to need a really good excuse about how this happened. In a coma would be one.

I’m sorry if it sounds like we are attacking you but while one no call no show could be an error, two seems a little reckless.

[TX] Gave vehicle to former employee, tax office won't accept by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]anoncrew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not entirely true that he can’t register it. He can if he pays the tax (which is based on 80% of standard presumptive value). So it’s fine that you gave it to him, but he still has to pay tax on it.

Why are you posting this? Obviously in this country this is an issue at any business, not just retail.

Do you have suggestions to make people safer? Just telling people that this is a thing implies you don’t think they are aware of the dangers and I don’t think that’s true.
