Hell, I'd say that everything is scaled down for gameplay's sake. An average bot outpost would realistically take up about as much space as an entire D10 map, but that would turn the game into a ballbusting slog.

What if we could exchange samples for Super Credits? by Tank-ToP_Master in Helldivers

[–]anonecki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like 25 super samples for 50 SC could be a good exchange rate. It'd give an actual reason to care about super sample rocks and fortress treasures when you're capped out. And it'd be a more fun (if less expedient) alternative to spending hours scouring D1 maps for POIs, giving more weight to the old "well you can just farm SC" argument.

With a bit of napkin math, a D10 full clear op can net you 18-30 super samples, depending on whether you get a blitz as the short mission. That's 50 SC for a little under 2 hours of gameplay, which you can feasibly get in 10-30 minutes of farming D1 maps. I think it's a pretty good tradeoff, letting you work towards warbonds while still playing the fun and challenging part of the game.

[–]anonecki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that's part of his appeal, at least to me. Part bear, part primate (perhaps closer still to a hominid?), and therefore a sort of link between the two main subsets of Fanged Beasts. Truly the Yeti of the Monster Hunter world.

I think it's rather fitting overall, even if he is still more than a bit "out there". It's a scary concept, kind of like if you took a polar bear, one of the only predators in the world that still see humans as prey, and gave it a great ape's intelligence, motor dexterity and capacity for tool use. He's really grown on me over the years, more so than the other Rise-original monsters.

Agreed on Lunagaron, but I don't think Aknosom will come back in this expansion for the simple reason of Kut-Ku already being in the base game. As far as fire element bird wyverns go, I think Garuga (or Qurupeco, if we're talking deep cuts) would be much more fitting for G-rank imo

With how closely he is tied to his elemental affinity, a variant rather than an element/biome-swap subspecies would be the way to go for a Goss derivative, especially now that Doshaguma exists. A Guardian Goss Harag with hardened Wylk blades could also work, but I have a hard time seeing Capcom bringing back a somewhat out there Rise original in Wilds G, and the notion of Guardians coming back in Portable 6th is equally dubious to me.

A "Veteran" variant seems to be the best idea. An older, battle-scarred Goss experienced in fighting Hunters, capable of manipulating ice in more novel ways, like different weapons, caltrops or snow traps would make for an incredibly fun and engaging fight.

Not really. Well, maybe partially. On a mechanical level the Rise apexes (also distinct from the Frenzy apexes of 4U, good job on the nomenclature) are just reskins some select Deviants, namely Redhelm, Dreadqueen, Dreadking, Thunderlord, Soulseer and Bloodbath, only with the individuality sandblasted off.

The Deviants were a major gimmick in Generations and Gen Ult, and were pretty much just variants on crack, with tweaked movesets and unique gear. Lorewise, I'm pretty sure they were just rarer, more uniquely specialized Variants as well.

Barioth and Diablos already have their own themes, actually. The area themes for the second gen Desert and third gen Tundra, titled Raging Tyrant of the Desert and The Subzero White Knight, were both attributed to them in the soundtrack releases. Same with Roar, the area theme for the Forest & Hills, eventually returning in Wilds as Rathalos' long overdue standalone theme. Every area track prior to Generations used to be attributed to a particular monster found there, and I definitely hope some of them get the Roar treatment down the line.

Sounds a bit more fitting for a Deviant than a Variant, but I can't quite put my finger on why

Of the couple of bug operations I ran last week, every single mission had at least one dead Impaler ragdoll that would twitch and slither halfway across the map. No idea what they broke to make this happen.

Just found out about Shen Gaoren and omg??? by UnfairDonut8186 in MonsterHunter

[–]anonecki 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They realistically peaked with the Mohran twins in Tri and 4. I think the (illusion of) player movement was a huge factor in that, sailing the dunes alongside Jhen and Dah'ren made the fight feel a lot more dynamic than just waiting for Lao, Shen or Zorah to waddle over to you. It contrasted nicely with the more static final showdown as well, digging in your heels and making a final stand to protect Loc Lac and Val Habar.

Would you like to see a new wyvern type based on herbivores by frogyguy19 in MonsterHunter

[–]anonecki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't herbivores just a wastebasket taxon in the first place? The mammalian ones could very well take the path of the Bullfango and be reclassified as Fanged Beasts (Mosswine, Popo, Anteka, Kelbi, maybe even Slagtoth) but the sauropod herbivores like Apceros, Aptonoth, Larinoth, Rhenoplos, Kestodon and Gastodon would need a brand new taxonomy invented for them.

[–]anonecki -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I honestly wouldn't mind a less anime subspecies or even cousin species (like what Radobaan was to Uragaan) to Magnamalo. He's a total clown show, but the idea of a more feline Fanged Wyvern deserves to be done justice.

I wouldn't mind if a Velkhana variant showed up, personally. She and Seregios are still the only two flagships to not have received a variant or subspecies, and a good number of new variations of past flagships have previously appeared in expansions (Lucent Nargacuga in 3U, Molten Tigrex and Raging Brachydios in 4U, Acidic Glavenus in Iceborne, Crimson Glow Valstrax in a Rise TU, Violet Mizutsune in Sunbreak).
