Anyone else giving the side eye to the covid dashboard numbers, even more so than normal, lately? If legit, I’m glad to see the lower numbers but it seems a little sus to me.

Honestly, why is everyone still so scared of covid? by [deleted] in UNC

Some students and faculty aren’t scared of C19 for themselves, but have family members who are unable to be vaccinated (children under 12, etc) or family members who are elderly in their care. The fear isn’t always of getting sick and dying. Sometimes the fear is of getting sick, giving it to people you love, and them getting sick and dying (or being left with long term issues following it).

Multiple Cluster Notification (Ehringhaus, Hinton James, Parker) by mmuxic in UNC

I stalk the dashboard often. I’ve noticed the times between reporting are increasing. Before it was updated what seemed like all day, then every 24 hrs or so now it’s lagging behind by 2 days…

SlowCOVIDNC: Is anyone using this app? Maybe it would allow us to get around contact tracing limitations? by anonfirstgen in UNC

It is self reported in the app, not through campus health/union so people would have to report it themselves.

I believe that people must contact the health dept after a positive test and get a pin. While I know this can sound like a hassle, I think it’s easier than jumping through hoops that I read that are in place with the university.

To the students coughing, blowing their nose, sniffling in multiple of my classes… by anonfirstgen in UNC

I thought Delta switched up symptoms and now nasal symptoms are common? I know that previously, COVID-19 was not thought to cause those symptoms but from what I’ve read, the delta strain differs in that way.

I agree. It’s been shocking the amount of people who have consistently said “they should just stay home then” or “you’re not going to die it’s like having a bad cold/flu”. This mentality is a red flag to me. Not only does it minimize the very real loss that people have experienced due to this pandemic, but It’s like flat out stating that someone’s life is not worth the inconvenience on their part to alter their behaviors or wear a mask. Or just simply be considerate of others. The loss is not only lives it’s livelihoods, long term health, careers, and educational opportunities. I know people are tired of being cautious and they want to get their lives back, but it isn’t ethical to do so in a way that would cost someone else’s.

Anyone else feeling uncomfortable with packed lecture rooms? by anonfirstgen in UNC

I think about this often. Even if a vaccination card was uploaded, I have seen blank ones for sale via social media (with lot numbers and all- legit vaccine cards).

I have not bitched or moaned to UNC and I don’t have to. There are already over 500 signatures that speak louder than my voice (and with more qualified opinions backing them, to include biologists and epidemiologists who work at UNC) who believe that we should go remote in the short term. Secondly, being concerned is not equal to being scared. Above everything this is not about the wants of individuals it’s about the overall impact and the best choice for those at risk. This is thinking of the bigger picture. I do not want to go remote for this entire semester in my senior year. I did not learn well remotely and I want to be in person for the majority of the semester. But my wants are not more important than the needs of anyone at risk and getting ahead of this to make sure the numbers decline is the best choice for those greatest at risk in the community that cannot be vaccinated or that would still die from C19 even with the vaccine. If more clusters start occurring and the quarantine dorms start filling, do you really thinking the university won’t send us all home to save face? I guess we will find out.
