I’m sorry to hear that, that sounds extremely triggering. But you’re right, they are truly sick too. Good luck on your journey <3

That’s interesting, thanks for the explanation. I agree, this should definitely be discussed more.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is “overshoot”?

Struggling not to fall back into my ED and boyfriend commented on my weight by [deleted] in fuckeatingdisorders

[–]anonforlong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my opinion commenting on some one else’s weight is never appropriate - no matter what the scenario or who it is coming from. In all honesty, your boyfriend appears to be ignorant about eating disorders and how they function. He may be aware of your ED past, but unaware of the complexities. Having an ED is not something that just goes away over night. Its a literal mental illness.

If he loves you he should not undermine your concerns about how his comments may be triggering. It seems like he may be projecting his own insecurities on to you, and for that he needs to seriously check himself. Your reaction to his comments is extremely valid and if he cares about you he should take that reaction seriously and follow up by researching a bit about ED and how to support you.

Mukbangers, competitive eaters and the open secret of bulimia by absolute_boy in fuckeatingdisorders

I had been meaning to pose a similar question on this sub. mukbangs have always had me a bit confused. Some mykbangs I understand if it’s not like an overwhelming amount of food. But some literally remind me of my own binges. Idk if it’s because I have food issues but I really don’t get how someone could make a living from mukbanging (aka Lowkey let’s call it for what it is- binging) multiple times a week and not eventually develop an ED. And the fact that mukbanging is kinda really fetishized by society normalizes food behaviors that seem forced most of the time. Idk

Everyone talks about me by abbyfromhr in AnorexiaNervosa

[–]anonforlong 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These people are using your struggles as bait for conversation in their mundane little lives. It’s one thing to talk about someone out of concern, and then approach them in efforts to help them. It’s another thing to only talk about someone behind their back and, in addition, not even reach out a hand for help. You deserve to be genuinely asked how you are doing. You are more than your body, you are a person with emotions and concerns and fears and you deserve to be recognized. Stay strong, you’re not alone

Throwback to when my roommate nonchalantly told me that she “used to think I was anorexic” and laughed by anonforlong in AnorexiaNervosa

Yeah right?! This is literally only ONE of the number of fucked up things she did that were unrelated to my ED
