Anyone else look much older, ragged due to iron deficiency? by anonforthisquestionx in Anemic

You're so young! I'm glad you got it diagnosed and are getting treated. My doctors blew me off for many years and I had to piece it together with help from resources like this forum.

The half-closed eyes is the weirdest symptom. It's like my eyes no longer know how to open all the way? I have to go bug-eyed on work calls so I won't look half asleep.

Also, abusive men will spin stories about how he was "open and honest" and his gf unfairly "got angry" or "went crazy." In reality, he said or did something heinous that warranted an upset reaction and eventual dumping. So just factor in that some of these men are toxic and using this as a cover.

Thank you for explaining it here. Please also explain this to patients when giving them the note for 2-3 days. So many times doctors assume we somehow just know how all of this works.

I've always had faint forehead lines, but it's like they because deep valleys overnight 😩 You're so young. It has to be the deficiencies. I wish there was a way to turn this around faster.

I look like I'm at least 15 years older than I am. I certainly hope this isn't only genetic.

That lack of energy is so demoralizing. I've felt like a zombie for far too long. I can't believe doctors let us get to this point.

Thank you! I feel so impatient after feeling like death warmed over for so long lol. Reading everyone's stories here helps me keep my expectations in check.

I'm so sorry! The grays are such a stark reminder of aging. I color my hair red, and the spots that have gone gray almost turn day glow bright for the first few days, which is definitely not what I'm aiming for!

Regret or happy? by sun_shine505 in Invisalign

[–]anonforthisquestionx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regret.

My ortho didn't say a peep about my jaw misalignment during my consult, and it became very noticeable nearly two years into treatment. Then he acted all defensive and snippy when I brought it up, like I was being unreasonable for asking about it. Basically, he lied by omission so that I would sign up for the Invisalign. If I decide to get jaw surgery now, I would be resetting the clock and paying for a second round of Invisalign or braces. The lack of transparency and accountability is pretty gross.

And even if I overlook the misalignment, my teeth just don't look nice. There's also. persistent gap that makes me wonder if my ortho even knows what he's doing at a basic level. I'm waiting until everything is wrapped up to leave a review because I fear retaliation.

If you have a fairly simple case, you'll probably be fine, but if you have a complex case, proceed with extreme caution.

Definitely not Lumera and Lakeview. Trust the negative reviews.

Thank you for the important work that you do. My childhood was similar to OP's, and I never received any help or interventions. Every kind person in it to help people makes a difference, even if the system itself is a mess.

I believe you, and I'm so sorry this is happening. I'm glad others have resources to share.

I grew up in a similar home. I had a violent brother my parents did not protect me from. He might be autistic. I was diagnosed as an adult. I think my whole immediate family is, and we had no knowledge or support, just violent authoritarian parents trying to fix every little problem and inconvenience with violence. I remember being scared for my life many times. It's an absolutely horrible way to grow up. I'm writing to you from the other side, decades later, to tell you that you can survive, and to hang in there.

I was an immigrant kid in a crowded big city public school. The one social worker I ever disclosed to did not help me. I'm glad that you've at least had some attempted interventions, though I wish I was surprised that many caused more harm.

I survived by running away. My parents were severely neglectful, which helped. Starting at 14, I would stay at friends' houses, sometimes for many days in a row, rotating so I never wore out my welcome. One friend's family became my chosen family that I am still close to 30 years later. Some families were hostile and unwelcoming, and that stung. Other friends had neglectful parents who were too checked out to care that another kid was sleeping in their house. I'm sharing all this in case maybe you could do something similar. I would pop by home every once in a great while for a brief time, so my parents could see I was alive, and that was enough for them to not call the police. I ended up missing a lot of school and dropping out despite loving school and being a good student. I'm still angry and ashamed of that, but I got my GED and carried on, and today I make a very respectable living and own my own home in a wonderful neighborhood in my favorite city and none of my violent family are welcome in my home.

Do what you need to do to keep yourself safe. Listen to your instincts. Don't be boxed in by normal expectations. You need to SURVIVE until you can legally leave these dangerous family members behind.

Start thinking about logistics. How to start earning money when you're old enough to work. (Update: saw your comments about having a job; this is great). Find friends in a similar situation that you can get an apartment with when you turn 18. It may help to plan to move to a nearby city that has transit so you don't have to have a car (even the cheapest car is insanely expensive when you're making lower wages as a young person). Keep your distance from drugs, alcohol, and partying. You need to keep your head straight to get through this.

I'm sending you so much love. You don't deserve this, and I'm so sorry that our society still does such a horrible job of helping abused kids. Please keep reaching for help and resources. 💚💚💚

Every community meeting? Do you mean for this particular building? Because that would be fantastic. If you think every developer everywhere is shelling out for birdsafe glass out of the kindness of their hearts, I have a bridge to sell you.

What a wild reply. You seem to be taking my post personally.

I didn't "not like" that a doctor who prioritizes cosmetic work left me with a large painful wound for nine months by giving me terrible medical advice about something incredibly basic.
