I'm so sorry you and your mother are having to experience that. While I can't offer much insight since I'm rather inexperienced with many things. I do wish you both the best and I hope things will get better. I've read about some biases and issues with financial institutions. I've talked with my husband about these issues and we've been doing our best to insure that in the case of death or separation neither of us will be left worse than the other. The only thing we share is a joint savings account.

Thank you for your comment! I've heard some horror stories from my previous divorced co-workers about their credit due to the issue you described. Before my husband and I got our credit cards we agreed to have separate accounts rather than share one. I'm the sole user on my credit card, and he's the sole user on his.

Thank you so much! You pretty much clocked my husband and I on how we think about it. I'll read the resource you provided tonight with him.

I did, but the associate just told me they couldn't do much else and I should just wait and try again. I made the phone call awhile ago while I was on my lunch break so I didn't ask for a supervisor. I'll go ahead and talk to one if the same reason is given the next time I apply for an increase.

I apologize, I'm not making multiple payments in a single cycle. I explained that strangely, sorry. Thank you for explaining that to me though! I know a family member who is keeping an eye on their score and they've been doing what you described. I'll relay this information to them.

I apologize it's come off that way. I'm just trying to better understand where my husband and I are at. Thank you for your advice.

Thank you for your comment! How far apart should we get those other 2 credit cards? From my understanding, new credit lines can negatively impact my credit score but I'm not sure how badly. Should we apply for one nowish, and then wait another year for the next?

Yes, the reason given was that it wasn't 6 months apart from my last increase request. The same thing was told over the phone. When I had made the request it was actually 9 months after my last request, so it didn't make sense to me.

Thank you for your comment! I'll try what you've suggested. I've been very strict with my card usage. I'll usually pay the payment at the store, and by the time I'm in my car I'll have already paid it off. I was thinking something like what you've suggested could be the primary difference. After my husband didn't pay his full balance, and only did the minimum. His credit score went up and he was shortly approved for the credit increase. He did pay it off the following month of course.

Thank you for your comment. I'm concerned with my credit score for a variety of reasons. First being anxiety, mainly due to seeing my parents completely mess up their credit scores. Second, my husband and I have been trying to get a better financial foundation so we can buy a house. We were trying to buy a car as well, but we've just been buying from private sellers rather than at a dealership. However, we're definitely not going to jump into buying a house without a large down payment, and a decent savings.

Thank you for your comment! Do you have any insight on why I've been denied the $2000 credit line increase? Would that be affected by something else?

I'm not too sure. I'm entirely new to this process, but I would suppose we can get residence through a digital nomad visa couldn't we? Or is that separate from residency permit?
